Chapter 6

I stiffen at that word: 'Mate'

I don't want a mate!!

Never have, and never will!

I run towards the tree where I had hidden my clothes and shift, dressing as quickly as humanly possible.

Storming back out to face this guy.

"You are not my mate?!" I growl, denying it.

He smirks at me. "Deny it all you want, sweetheart. But I'm your mate." He folds his arms over his arms.

My eyes follow the movement, and I only just notice that he's shirtless.

Oh. My. God

"You're drooling." He says.

My eyes snap up to his, and I smile sarcastically.
"You're not funny." I say, before spinning on my heels with the intention of leaving.

"Hey!" He shouts from behind me, "where do you think you're going?"

"Away." I shout back, not bothering to look back.

When I don't get a response, I start to walk quicker.
I'm just thankful he didn't take it further.

I can just see the house when I'm hoisted over someone's shoulder.
"Put me down! Now!" I scream, kicking and thrashing in every direction.

"Nope." He pops the 'p'.

"Why not?" I whine.

"Because, I'm not done talking to you." He says, walking further and further away.

I groan, unpleased.
He tenses under me, "Don't do that." He warns.

"Why not?" I ask.

"Because, if you want your clothes to stay intact, I wouldn't go around moaning and groaning if I were you."

I huff, giving up.

Moments later, he just drags me down his body.
Literally.
He lets me down, making sure my body comes into contact with his.

On purpose.

When my feet are finally on the ground, I take a good 2 metres step backwards.

"What's your problem?!" I snap at the guy.

That reminds me, I still don't know his name..

"I don't have a problem." He shrugs.

"What do you want?!" I ask instead

"I just want my mate."

"That's a shame. I can't really help you find he-"

"Stop. Denying. It." He says to me through clenched teeth.

Jee, I really hit a nerve there.

"I'm not denying anything. I'm just not your mate." I tease.

I can already tell winding him up is a great idea.

He growl menacingly at me, but because I'm the alphas daughter, it doesn't affect me like it does others.

"Don't growl at me." I scold.
When I scold him, he looks both confused and surprised.

Probably because I didn't cower down to him like others actually do.

All confusion and surprises aside, he begins to look angry again.

He stalks over to me, and I do the same.

Just in the opposite direction: backwards.

It's not until my back reaches a tree that I swear in realisation.

He places both his arms either side of my head, his palms flat against the rough bark and leans forward, so our faces are just centimetres apart.

"Are you going to deny it now?" He whispers.

Now that I can see him up close, his eyes look kind of cold, and massively angry. And kind of familiar.

Fuck, that nerve must have been big...

"D-deny what?" I whisper back.

If it was even possible, his eyes darken even more. "Are you going to deny you're my mate?!" He growls.

"There's nothing to deny." I whisper, and I see him visibly relax. That is, until my next few words.
"Because I'm not you're mate."

'Oh, shit! You've gone and put yourself in it this time, Poppy!' Roxy warns me. 'Why couldn't you just give in and live happily ever after?' She sighs.

'You know why I can't do that, Roxy!' I growl.

She blocks me, clearly angry.

"I will not tell you again!" He snaps, gripping the bark on the tree so hard large chunks snap off, damaging his ginormous hands.

"How am I meant to be your mate when I don't even know your name?" I snap back, getting in his face.

He doesn't reply immediately, but his chest is heaving so much that it keeps touching mine.
"I'm Zack." He introduces.

"I'm Poppy." I say back. "I'd say it was nice to meet you, but frankly, it wasn't."

He ignores my little remark, "So. Now that you know my name. Are you going to come to terms with it?"

I roll my eyes. "There's nothing to come to terms with. Whoop de do! I know your name, let's go run off into the sunset together!" I exaggerate, "don't think so pal."

He smashed his lips against mine, kissing me roughly. But I kind of liked it.
It made him look powerful, and that he could take anything he wanted.

Wait wait wait! I shouldn't let this happen!

I open my eyes and see that my arms had snaked their way around his neck.

I pull them back as if his skin was burning me. He pulls back a few seconds after.

"What's the matter?" Zacks voice is husky. I try to suppress a shiver.

I smack his shoulder. "Why would you do that?!" I scold.

He looks highly amused by my childish behaviour.
"Let me go.." I growl, narrowing my eyes.

"No." He outright refuses, testing the waters.

If I really wanted to, I could just lash out, overpower him easily.

But that would show him who I really was.

I duck under his arm and run. Not even looking over my shoulder to see if he was following, because I just know he was.

'Give up now. I'll eventually get you anyway.' He mink links me, chuckling.

I could just make out the shape of the pack-house, and I sigh in relief, still not slowing my pace.

Weird, I've ran twice towards my home, but only seem to be succeeding once...

I can see Hannah talking with my dad at the front door. Not good.

They turn towards me when they sense me.

Both of them look pissed, and worried.

Shit...
