The Earth Doesn't Forget

Primrose sighed dreamily, waving her fingers in front of her face as she used her hand to block out the moon from her eyes. She let her hand drop beside her as she inhaled the crisp air. She shut her eyes, relishing at the sweet scent of the November air.  "If you were a planet, what kind of planet would you be?"

Stanley hummed, tearing his eyes away from the stars to look at her. "Definitely Jupiter. What about you?"

"I'd definitely be Earth.." Primrose grinned, pulling her knees up to her chest as she rested her hand on top of his. Warmth spread throughout her body as she trailed her eyes over the constellations she loved so dearly. "She's so full of life.. and wonder.. and beauty. So full of history. I think it'd be amazing to be like that.. To see history unfold right in front of our eyes. To know every little detail about everything.. To be around for every little happy moment every person experiences. I would love to be able to see everyone in their happiest moments. To be able to see what makes us, well, us. What do you think it'd be like? To be able to watch people meet their soulmates, to watch them fall in love and experience all of their firsts. I think it'd be amazing."

Stanley gazed at her in pure adoration, his heart hammering against his chest. The chilly breeze blew Primrose's hair gently behind her. His breath caught in his throat when she turned her head to lock eyes with him. A small smile crept onto her face as she watched his cheeks heat up. "C-Continue.. uh, please."

"You see, I believe that the memories of our ancestors are woven into the Earth itself." She sighed, leaning her head on his shoulder and interlacing their fingers.  "They're burried deep, deep down and left to be forgotten. And they are, by people. But the Earth doesn't forget. The Earth remembers every moment in history. Frozen in time. Beautifully tragic, really. Because remembering everything means you remember all the horrible things, too. She remembers all the pain her people felt, all the horrible horrible things they've done to themselves and each other. And she cries for us. She cries for her people."

Stanley nodded slowly, parting his lips as he tightened his grip on her hand. He let his eyes flutter shut, butterflies erupting in his stomach as Primrose drew small designs on his hand with her finger. "Our memories will become part of the Earth one day. It's like a cycle.. And as the Earth ages and ages, after we have long gone back to the Earth, she remembers. She'll remember you, she'll remember me, and she'll remember us. She'll remember this exact moment and smile on it. She'll smile because this is a good moment."

"You think the Earth will remember us?" Stanley repeated, his voice quiet as he opened his eyes and looked down at her.

"Why wouldn't she? You, my handsome Stanley, are the most memorable person I've ever met." Primrose mumbled, reaching her free hand up and resting her hand on his cheek. Stanley blushed, joy overwhelming him as he laughed. "Mother Earth would be proud to have you."

Stanley closed his eyes, leaning his forehead against hers as he wrapped his arms tightly around her waist. "You have no.. no idea how much that means to me."

"Hey, my handsome Stanley?" Primrose hummed, raising her free hand to run through his curls. "Do you think Mother Earth knows what people are meant for each other? And she makes certain events happen so those people can meet and fall in love?"

Stanley let his eyes flutter open, his breath hitching in his throat as his eyes met hers. Primrose let a dreamy sigh slip past her lips as she looked up towards the moon. "I think she does. Do you think that's what she did for us? Or do you think we did that on our own?"

"I don't think we needed any help finding each other."

Primrose inhaled nervously, smoothing out the fabric of her homecoming dress. She looked up from the floor, making eye contact with herself in the mirror. Her mom sent her a small smile as she entered the room, "You look beautiful, honey."

"Thanks, mom. Is dad scaring him?" Primrose asked, slipping on her shoes as she turned to face her mom.

She nodded with a sigh, "Yeah. You should probably go down there, poor boy is shaking in his boots."

Primrose nodded with a sigh as she left the room. Her heart hammered against her chest as her feet carried her down the stairs, she made sure to be extra careful she didn't trip on her dress. The sound of her dad trying to scare Stanley out of his mind filled her ears as she hit the final step.

The boy turned his head to look at her, is jaw falling as his eyes landed on her. His eyes widened and time felt as if it had stopped around him as she grinned at him. "Holy shit.. I-I.. holy shit. Wow."

Primrose smiled, walking over to where he stood. Her dad smiled at her, "You look beautiful, honey."

"Thanks, dad." Primrose smiled, raising the skirt of her dress in a curtsey.

"Wait! I need pictures!" Her mom called from the staircase, "I have my camera ready."

Primrose nodded, taking Stanley by the hand and leading him to the window for natural lighting.

"Alright! Smile for me!" The woman raised her camera to her eyes as large grins spread across both teen's faces. Finally, after what felt like a thousand pictures, Primrose's parents let them leave for the dance.

Stanley led her to his car, his heart racing a mile a minute as he opened the door for her. "M-M'lady.."

Primrose grinned, blowing him a kiss as he shut the car door and jogged to his side. A cool gust of wind went through the car as he got in, shutting the door behind him. "Yo-You look beautiful, by the way. I-I-"

Primrose grinned as her cheeks heated up, "Thank you. You look handsome, my handsome Stanley. Blue suits you."

Stanley's lips curvedd into a smile as he looked over at her, a smile resting on her face as she turned her eyes towards the clouds in the sky.

"So.." Stanley asked, looking over at his date as he nervously drummed his fingers against the steering wheel. "Ready?"

"Ready." Primrose confirmed, looking down at the natural designs on her dress. "Do you think clouds know they're clouds?"
