Mal was feeling extra annoyed that day. She just got back from an argument with Ben in his office. Apparently, someone revealed that they misheard a conversation between Audrey and Ben, and Ben has repeatedly told Mal that he hated Audrey and never talked to her since they broke up. So Mal was really angry when she found out, of course.
What made it worse was that Ben acted like he didn't know a single thing and screamed at Mal for suspecting him of doing "such a unbelievable thing". Mal, in the moment of heat and anger, broke up with Ben.
So it was pretty understandable that she was in a bad mood. A very bad mood. If fact, so bad that she was practically fuming on the way back to her dorm room, almost startling Evie out of her seat when she slammed the door as she entered the dorm.
"AHHHHHH", she screamed into her pillow. She wanted to crawl into a hole and die. Literally.
"Uhh...Mal? Are you feeling alright?" Evie asked, concerned, and very afraid. She had seen Mal like this before, once. And it was when they were still back on the isle. The night before they came to Auradon. Mal wasn't very pleased that day. In fact, she trashed her whole entire room, without her mom knowing, of course. She could've gotten beaten really badly if Maleficent knew.
Thankfully, Evie, Jay and Carlos were there to help her. After her fit, they spent two whole hours cleaning up the mess that she had made.
Evie did not want to clean up that big of a mess again. She was a fashion designer, so it was understandable that she hated messiness.
"mfhhh" Mal muffled into her pillow.
"What?" Evie asked, very confused.
"mehn moke vif ee" Mal mumbled.
"Mal, I can't understand a single thing you're saying." Evie said, perplexed.
Sighing, Mal flipped around, clutching onto her pillow for dear life.
"Ben broke up with me." She said simply.
"Oh my god! I didn't know! I'm so sorry Mal!" Evie stuttered in shock.
"Nah it's okay. I don't feel sad." Mal told the frightened girl.
"Mal..." Evie understood Mal very well, and she could tell that she was lying right this moment. She sat onto the bed and hugged Mal tightly. "It's okay, Mal. Talk to me." She whispered in her ear softly.
Without warning, tears started spilling out of Mal eyes, dampening Evie's dress sleeve. She sobbed uncontrollably, clearly very frustrated.
"I don't know what to feel anymore. Everything is so confusing and annoying. Nothing seems to please me anymore. Sometimes, I feel like going back on the isle. And you know I hate the isle, E. I despise it there." Mal explained after calming down.
Evie nodded her head understandingly. She has also been going through some tough times now, so she knew what Mal was feeling.
"Believe or not, I have been having those thoughts too. It's how to cope with them you need to worry about. You must think on the positive side of things. Be more optimistic. Everything is fine. You still have me, carlos and jay to talk to. We are your family. You can trust us." Evie said softly.
Mal sniffled softly, feeling very greatful to have a friend like Evie. She suddenly remembered a time when they were back in the isle. A similar moment to what was happening then...
It was a few hours after Mal trashed her room. She felt better after thinking about how lucky she was to have three amazing friends that helped her cope with such a rough situation. She gazed at Evie, peacefully sleeping at the other end of the room. Her heart fluttered a little when she looked at her. Almost as if....she liked her. "No." Mal thought to herself. "Impossible." She shut her eyes, breathing deeply. She was just confused. She had just experienced a panic attack.
"Can't sleep?" Evie peeped, the sudden change of noise making Mal gasp in shock. "N-no. I was just thinking..." Mal muttered. Evie giggled as she sat up, yawning. "Go to sleeeep. It's already 11pm!" She said, looking at the clock on the wall. "I know. And I will! I was just...thinking about...stuff." Mal told the blue haired girl.
"What stuff?" Evie asked curiously.
"You." Mal immediately recovered from what she said, though. She quickly corrected herself, "I meant- School. Yeah, school. Haha..." She was really bad at lying though. Evie saw right through her. "Oo, the hard Mal has a soft side tooo~" Evie teased her. Mal gone red in the face. "You know, I like you too, if thats what you meant." Evie giggled. "Now let's go to sleep, I'm so tired." She tucked herself under the sheets and dozed off once again. Mal blinked, confused. She didn't know what just happened, or if Evie meant what she said. But whether she did or not, Mal felt way happier. She smiled softly to herself as she forced herself to sleep, awaiting what would happen the next day.
"Mal? Mal!" Evie snapped her fingers in front of Mal's face, wondering what has gotten into her. "Wh-wha" Mal said as she slowly recovered from the flashback. Evie laughed cheerfully. "You said you liked me, you know?" She said, a little confused. "I did?" Mal stuttered, very embarrassed.
"But it's fine! Cause I like you too!!" Evie giggled. She pecked Mal's cheek and then sat up. Anyways, I gotta go back to my homework, you should do yours too y'know?" And just like that, she left Mal confused and lovestruck again. But I mean, it's just the beginning, right?
