The Amulets

Chapter Two

Once she got into the restaurant, Harper took out the menu and scoured for an entree that sounded delicious. One item that caught her eye was the grilled chicken with a side of caesar salad. She decided that she would have that. Victoria, sitting across the table, decided to share the "Two for the Price of One" burger option with Lauren. They were in the middle of talking about a popular video on social media when the boys walked in.

Isaac, Jake and Logan walked in talking about a football game that happened yesterday. Isaac had tousled blond hair and bright green eyes, Logan was strong and had dark brown hair, and Jake had dirty blond hair with emerald green eyes and a perfect tan. Isaac and Logan had been dating the twins for one and a half years, Isaac with Victoria, and Lauren with Logan. Harper, however, had not been on a date with Jake yet, he was a friend of Logan's, so Harper thought that she would try to get to know him.

"Hey, Vic." said Isaac, sitting down next to her, then giving her a kiss on her cheek.

Victoria smiled, and said, "Oh, hey, Isaac." She looked at the menu and pointed at one of the items, then laughed. Isaac laughed with her, and then they got into a lively conversation about the delicious fruit smoothies that were on the menu and which one they should share.

Logan sat down next to Lauren. Lauren smiled and looked down. Jake looked unsure of where to sit, so he finally took a seat between Logan and Harper.

He smiled shyly and said, "Hey, I'm Jake. It's so good to finally meet you. Your name is Harper, right?"

"Yeah, and it's nice to meet you, too." Harper said, blushing. "So, what do you like to do?" she asked, searching for something to say.

"I play guitar, and I also like to play basketball," he asserted. and then gestured to Harper. "What do you like to do?" he asked.

Definitely missions, she thought, but knew that she couldn't tell him this. The closest thing to missions was parkour, and parkour used flips and handsprings, so... tumbling! "I like tumbling," she said. "I also like to read, too."

"Hey, I love to read too! What books do you like?" he asked earnestly.

Harper was not prepared for this, so she named the first book that came to her mind. "Harry Potter! I love to read Harry Potter." she said quickly.

"Hey, me too!" he exclaimed. "Did you like the books or the movies better?"

"The books, obviously." she said.

Then they got into a conversation about Harry Potter, which led to other conversations. By the time the waiter came over to take their orders, Jake and Harper felt like they had known each other for much longer than 15 minutes.

Harper ordered the chicken wings with ketchup and a small side salad, and Jake ordered the same thing, with a side of fries. Harper and Jake went back to their conversation about their favorite movie snacks when Harper heard something explode outside. Everyone in the restaurant screamed, except for Harper, Victoria, and Lauren and their dates. Harper and the twins shared a look of horror before saying"Gotta go!" and rushing to the bathroom. "We'll go, too. We, um, need to take cover!" their dates said. Then they ran off, with explosions getting closer and closer.

Great, there's an explosion session during my date, Harper thought. I bet that the Bad Boys are going to try and help again, too. Even worse.

The Bad Boys name was a misnomer. They were actually heroes, with powers similar to Harper's and the twins'. But sometimes, they, and Harper, got all the credit for the things that the twins were part of.

Harper ran to the girl's bathroom and took out her purse, and found a small rectangular chuck of metal which was actually a gadget called the Quick Change that would change her into her suit if she entered the passcode and hit it against her body. She did it quickly while calling over the stall doors to make sure the twins were doing the same thing. After they told her their answers she pushed a button on the inside of her purse and it shrank to a charm that she put on her belt. If she pressed it again, it would change into her normal outfit again.
