It was night time during summer break. Mitsuba was over at Kou's house. Kou lived in a house surrounded by woods. They had went swimming in the river earlier and made smores. "C'mon I want to show you something!" Kou called out to Mitsuba. He handed Mitsuba a flashlight and flicked his own on, then took of running. Mitsuba ran after him. "Wait- Kou!" he called out. Mitsuba wasn't the most athletic kid. He had never been on a sports team before. He constantly had to stop to catch his breath, and the humid air certainly didn't help. His pink bangs kept flying over both of his eyes so he couldn't see. Kou stopped and waited patiently for Mitsuba. Once Mitsuba had caught up he was practically exhausted. He was bent over heaving, with his hands rested on his knees. "What ever this is it better be worth all that running! My dainty little legs are gonna ache for days!" Mitsuba exclaimed. "Oh come on. This is only like 2 blocks away from home. And it will be. Trust me." Kou said. Ahead of them was a bridge. The railings were bright red and the wood was dark brown. Mitsuba gulped. He was terrified of heights. Kou noticed Mitsuba was stalling so he turned around. "What's wrong?" he asked. "W-well, it's just that- is there another way we can go?" Mitsuba said shakily. "Well how else are gonna cross the river? Do you expect me to swim?" Kou asked sarcastically. "What if th- the bridge breaks? And we fall down and die?" Mitsuba worried. "That's not gonna happen." Kou reassured him. "You don't know that!" Mitsuba yelled, gripping his shoulder tightly. By now Kou was already done crossing the bridge and was at the other side. "C'mon you can do it Mitsuba! I believe in you!" Kou called from across the bridge. Mitsuba took a deep breath. He had to show Kou he wasn't just some pushover! He gripped the rails with both hands and placed one foot on the floor. He heard a board creak underneath him. That was all it took for him to sprint across it, screeching at the top of his lungs. There went being brave. They continued their way through the trees. Finally, they waded through a couple bushes and into a clearing. There was a tree house in the middle. Kou started to climb the ladder and Mitsuba followed. "When me and Teru were little and my little sister was just born, we came out here a built this tree house with my dad. It was a lot of fun," Kou reminisced. "though we haven't been here in a while so the place has gotten a little bit dusty." "Ah look! A cat!" Mitsuba exclaimed, pointing across the room. A gray and white cat with green eyes was curled into a corner of the room, asleep. Kou bent down to pet it. "You always seem to attract cats." Mitsuba observed. He tucked his pink hair behind his ear and sat criss cross next to Kou and the cat. "I don't know why they like me so much either." Kou said, stroking the cat's tail. It began purring. "It probably just wants to play with your stupid, lame, dangling traffic safety ear ring." Mitsuba suggested. "Th- that's not true!" The cat got up, stretched, and ran away. "Awww, you scared it away!" Mitsuba exclaimed. "You know, you remind me of a cat." Kou said. "Why? Is it because I'm so cuteeee~?" Mitsuba asked, smirking and tilting his head to the side. "No. You're loud, attention seeking, lazy..." "Hey cut it out!" Mitsuba stuck his tongue out at Kou. Kou giggled. "I was just joking!" Mitsuba playfully hit Kou's shoulder. Kou stood up, dusting the dirt off his pants. "C'mon. There's actually something I wanted to show you up here!" Kou said. He gave Mitsuba hand signal, signaling him to follow him. Mitsuba stood up and follwed Kou to the other side if the room. "Seriously? another ladder to climb?" Mitsuba exclaimed. "This ladder leads to the upstairs" Kou exclaimed. Mitsuba followed Kou up the ladder. Kou flipped a switch and the room illuminated with yellow light. The room was decorated with fairy lights and there was a loft alond with a window which provided an amazing view of the forests. "Isn't it cool?" Kou exclaimed. "No not really." Mitsuba said. Kou opened a wooden crate under the loft and handed Mitsuba a glass Mason Jar. "What's this for?" Mitsuba asked. "We're gonna catch fire flies!" Kou exclaimed! He smiled brightly at Mitsuba. It made Mitsuba blush. He was so cute. Kou pushed open the window. It was sorta stuck since it hadn't been opened it so long, so Mitsuba had to help, though he didn't help much, considering how little upper body strength he had, not that he had much lower body strength either. The stars shined brightly Kou pulled himself out of the window and sat on the branch. He held out his hand to Mitsuba. Mitsuba reluctantly took hold of it, his whole body shook as he stepped out of the window. He sat down next to Kou. "See that wasn't so bad!" Kou said. He smiled at Mitsuba. Mitsuba looked away blushing. "Ah look! Theres one!" Kou exclaimed. He took the lid off the jar and captured the firefly. He held it out and showed it off to Mitsuba, but he didn't seem to pay any attention. Mitsuba interlaced his hand in Kou's. Kou blushed. He wasn't really used to Mitsuba being affectionate. Mitsuba laid his head onto Kou's shoulder. "I'm getting sleepy..." He said, rubbing his eye. "can we sleep here?" "ok." kou said. he planted a kiss on mitsuba's forehead and dragged him back through the window. he bumped his head against the top. he rubbed where it got bumped. "stupid clumsy traffic ear ring..." mitsuba tased hoarsely. as soon as kou laid mitsuba onto the loft, he was practically passed out. throughout the night, kou got basically no sleep since mitsuba is a terrible sleeping partner. mitsuba moved and kicked in his sleep and he was freezing cold since mitsuba took the blanket.
