“The sun is gone, but I have a light” - k.c.

The sun blazes down onto my face as I lie in the overgrown meadows of this old, rusty town. I bask in its warmth, knowing that one day we will no longer be able to. The sun is filled with evanescence, in a sense. One day it will just fade away. Or maybe it will be sudden. Maybe it will just happen, and we will never know. It seems better that way. I wish everything could go like that, sudden and without misery. Sometimes I think that it is more painful for the people who watch their beloveds die off, hopeless.

I am not dying, nor is anyone I know, but I am essentially hopeless. Hopeless for my future, my aspirations are dead. When I was a young girl, I wanted to be a veterinarian. This seems almost comical now, seeing as I am not a very nurturing nor caring person. I was, but it got ruined. My dreams were flaked away peice by peice by my peers. The monsters of our generation.

I snap out of my daze when I hear a rustle by the tree. A flock of birds fly over head, chirping unknown conversations to their friends. I sigh in relief and shake it off. Pulling a cigarette out of the package in my back pocket, I stand up, stumbling slightly. I cup my hands around the lighter and prepare to smoke the sorry away.

“You shouldn’t do that, you know.” A radiant male voice rings out from behind me. I jump, frightened, and drop my cigarette. Whipping my head around, I scowl.

“Shit.” I swore. “What’d ya do that for? You scared me to death.”

I get my first good look at the young, vibrant boy.

I’m sorry, my name is Ashton” the strange, beautiful creature states.

“Um, okay?” I respond. “I’m Aurora.”

“Like the Disney princess?”

“No.” I grow annoyedly. Can this kid just leave?

“Do you go to Easton High?” Ashton asks, seemingly ignoring my rude demeanor.

“Maybe, why does it matter?”

“Because I want to see more of you, you’re quite beautiful Aurora.” the boy grins widely at me, showing his prominent cheek bones. I try to cover up the shiver that ran through me as he said my name. Why is he getting to me so much? He steps towards me and leans into my ear. I can feel his warm breath against me as his curly hair tickles my temple. “So, so beautiful, sweetheart.” I swallow, trying to fight the blush creeping up my neck as he stalks away, back into the tree. “See ya ‘round, babe.” Ashton calls over his shoulder.

“Don’t count on it, creep.” I murmur under my breath as I watch him make his way through the tricky trail of the forest.
