I wake up to the sound of my alarm clock going off nonstop, I look at my phone.. 8:00. I've slept in. I jump out of bed and throw on a pair of jeans laying on my bedroom floor. I have to wake Kylie up. I run down the hallway into her room and rummage through her dresser drawers trying to find something for her to wear. I decide on a pink flowered summer dress with spaghetti straps. I rush over to her bed and start taking off her pjs hoping that'll wake her up, she's only two but she's definitely a sleeper. I get halfway done before I hear a knock at my door. Damnit! I stop what I'm doing and rush to see who it is. My mom.
I open the door and tell her I'm going to be late for class and I don't have time to talk. I turn around to go back to getting Kylie dressed as she grabs my arm and tells me that she's got it and to head off to school. I kiss her forehead, thank her and grab a banana to eat on the way.
I pull up to school fifteen minutes late. How the hell could anyone be late their freshman year of college?? I jump out of my 2006 Dodge Neon and head off to my first class. I was almost there when I heard a voice from the past call out my name. "Lauren? Is it really you?" I turn around to the last person I wanted to see. No... This can't be happening. Not today.. Ryan Durant.
Ryan was the first person I fell helplessly for. When me and Kylies father ended things he was the first person to truly make me happy. He wasn't a bad person, he just made a lot of bad decisions and being that I had my daughter I couldn't allow her to be in those types of circumstances.
"How have you been?!" He runs up and hugs me. Ryan's always been a hugger, it use to piss me off so bad because he would literally hug anybody and everybody. "I've been good" I exclaim. "And how's the little rugrat? I saw pictures of her not too long ago. She's getting big!"
Yeah.. Well, it has been about a year since you've seen her, I thought. I managed to choke out "yeah, she is. I'm sorry I'm already late. I have to go" "take care" I hear as I'm walking to my first class. Awkward. Just awkward. My first day and the person who completely destroyed me had to pick my school.
I mean we do live in a small town, so there's not many options but he always told me how much he hated it here and how he couldn't wait to get out. By the time I get to my first class I'm about thirty minutes late but no one seems to notice.
Class goes by quick, next thing I know I hear the bell ring. Class is over already? I grab my books and head out into the hallway where I was met by a guy about 6 foot 3 inches tall. "Lauren, right?" He says as he is rummaging through his bookbag.
"Yeah and you are?"
"Jeremy, Jeremy Brooks."
He pulled a couple books out of his book bag and zipped it up throwing it over his shoulder. I didn't realize at first how handsome he was. He has light blue eyes and short brown hair. And you can definetly tell he spends some time at the gym the way his arms are defined.
"So, are you new here?" He asks as I snap out of my daze. "Ye-Yeah" I manage to say. Then he smiled at me, and oh man those dimples.
