RECAP:
He walked out of his chamber, shutting the door carefully, not wanting to wake his lover. He trotted with a skip in his step, smile a blaze, humming a tune unknown to him, but it all felt too right. He had found himself at his fathers office, tentative but ready to get this over with. He opened the door and as soon as he set foot his father said to him, stone expression and no remorse.
"You are being sent off to war"
Those words held the power of a thousand men. Piercing swords, lashing words, harsh winds, and utter pain. "What?" Louis' lips moved before he could truly understand what his father had said, this may very well be his punishment. Did his father happen to stumble upon the two in the act, was he disgusted, disappointed? "You heard me clear, son. No lie to be told in my words. You are being sent off to war, today" his father said never turning to face the boy.Louis stood, tears stinging the backs of his eyes, "A-Am I being punished father? Have I done so wrong the only decision you could make is to send me off to meet my ends?" Louis cried, he'd always been one for dramatics. "Fear not young boy, this was not a decision made with haste. You have a duty to this country, France is a woman of needs. You need to fight for her, win this war! Slay beasts who dare to wrong her, this is no act of punishment, this is an act of glory! Can you not see young boy, I had to fight these grounds too, everyday I stand beside my mothership, for she is who I thank in victory! Have you no sense?" His father bellowed at the boy, head fully turned to face him. Louis felt a lump forming in his throat, he was not senseless.
He turned swiftly on his heel, already accepting the fate of his own. He sniffled lightly, always sensitive to certain topics of such matters. He was not crying for himself, but for his beloved. Ruddy, oh his sweet Ruddy. How would the young servant act with this news of his departure? Would he blame Louis, would he regret the night shared between the two? Would he act as if he did not care? Louis did not know nor was he willing to find out.
Louis walked out of the castle, his feet stumbled through the hills and the grassy fields. He felt his lungs tighten, his heart burst. He screamed out to the world, a desperate cry for redemption! What had thou done wrong! He needed an answer, what of him and Ruddy? Was this God's wrath? This was a cruel twist of a knife, stuck through his stomach. Slow death, painfully slow. God was not kind to those who misjudged his jurisdiction. Rain began to pour from the heavens. Thunder tumbled and roared in the sky. Lightning split a tree in two, one strike only needed. God was angry, he was furious. Louis was not sorry, he was not. He felt he needn't be so foolish.
If this was the Lord's way of retaliation for his actions he did not nor would not feel guilty. This is war, on every extent. Louis was no longer afraid of the outcome, nor was he distressed. He was simply convulsing with rage. His sobs quieted and his tears ceased. He stood to the ground, feet flat and head raised to the sky. He smiled as the rain trickled down his face. "I accept" was the only thing that was muttered out loud, soft and gentle but the intent was not as so.
The guards that were stood externally to Louis' room had solemn eyes and frowns engraved in their eyebrows. Each of his guards will miss him so, each one treated with his affection. Louis smiled a sad one and hugged each. A kiss planted to the cheeks of all, they had a special bond you could say.Ruddy and Louis a special bond. His sweet red Ruddy, oh how he adores him so. If only he had known that Louis would not be at his side after today, what would have been said between the both? Louis is too terrified of facing his rose, in fear of his sadness and hatred that will surely surface with the news of his departure. Louis, regretfully, is refusing to face him. It may be best, for Louis believes it so.
Louis feels his chambers are cold without a companion. He will surely miss France. She is the one who owns his heart, and his loyalty. He is ready to set off and fight. Even if he loses his life, even if he is not missed, he is doing this for his country.
There were two light knocks at my door. Louis' breath hitched as he felt a shiver run down his spine. "Come in" he exhaled and felt his face pale. The door creaked ajar, soft patters of steps adorned the perpetrator whom opened my chambers. Ruddy stood there with his perfect brown locks. His cheeks were tear stained and his eyes glossed. Louis exhaled shakily and hung his head. "You are leaving" Ruddy spoke the question as a statement. Louis glanced up at the boy, mouth open, yet no words would form. "I cannot understand why you would not tell me. Am I really not that important to you? Louis I am in love with you! And you are leaving!? Why? Am I not enough?!" Ruddy was spewing venom. Louis had not heard the declaration, too concerned with his thoughts. "I-I'm sorry, what did you say?" Louis stuttered and furrowed his brow. Ruddy scoffed and stomped over towards Louis, "You-you inconsiderate twat! I am enraged by such actions of ignorance! I have confessed-declared my love and adoration to-to you!" Ruddy exclaimed and shouted. His tears pouring like a stream. Louis felt guilt and remorse, but fear overall. Did I not also love Ruddy? "I am so sorry my rose. I have heard you clear now. I am truly burdened by your hurt, I am honored to have your love," Louis said and reached out to grab the hands of his lover. Ruddy sniffled, "You are forgiven my King. I could never stay mad at you because I love you" Ruddy emphasized yet again. Louis sighed through his nose, he dropped Ruddy's hands and along Ruddy's smiled fell. "I am so sorry Rose, I-I don't know what to say" Louis muttered as tears welled up in his eyes. He's scared to lose Ruddy. Ruddy's face contorted into hurt, "Say you love me! That you are in love with me!" He shouted. Louis just sniffled and denied with the shake of his head, "I will not lie to you, I have to much respect" Louis said sadly. Ruddy was sobbing now, "I am such a fool, I can not believe I thought you loved me. I am nothing but a mans whore!" he spoke rapt with hurt and anger fueling his words. Louis was trying to reassure the boy, but how? He did not know, but he felt Ruddy slipping through his fingers.
Ruddy retracted and cried whilst. He felt like he had broken Ruddy. He felt broken himself. Louis was crying now, Ruddy was his beloved. "My rose! Come back to me!" Louis shouted, a desperate cry. Ruddy was shaking with his broken heart. Louis could feel the sadness, "I am no longer your Rose, stop lying to me" Ruddy whispered. Louis did not know what to do, he was at a loss. Ruddy's back had hit the door, his hands fumbled before he grasped the door knob and exited.
Louis was left alone with his thoughts. Not for long though.
