I spun around at the feeling of a strong stinging sensation in my shoulder blade. I gasped at Callen, who standing over me with his blood covered knife. "You really are a nuisance." He growled while grasping my arm and throwing me to the floor. "I should've killed you while I had the chance!" The light from the blade moved across my face as he raised it higher into the air. He began to bring the dagger down yet again, but I was able to quickly roll away as the dagger pierced the spot where my chest had been mere moments ago. The windows shattered, and three more men entered the room. I quickly grasped my sword as Gage ran up to me and we stood back to back. "You're out numbered." Callen growled angrily. I tightened my grip on the handle of the sword and narrowed my eyes. "And you're out powered." I muttered. The three men laughed and approached me. "Oh, does the little Princess think she's- agh!" Callen jumped back as I swung my sword at him, effectively creating a deep wound in his shoulder. "I'll kill you!" At those words, all four men charged us from all sides. Two of them began fighting Gage, and one fought me.
As I was fighting, I noticed that one of the men was missing and began frantically searching for him. I cut down my other enemy and spun around, Callen was standing directly behind me, with his knife in hand. The whole room came to a stand still as we stared each other down, almost as though they believed that one wrong breath could mean potential death for one of us, but him and I both knew that only one of us would be leaving this room unharmed. "So it's come to this." He grinned and began circling me. "You tried to suck my friend into some kind of cult. I don't exactly take those things lightly." Callen smirked and held his knife at his side before charging towards me. I quickly found myself dodging to the side at tripping on the leg of a nearby chair, effectively falling to the floor.
Before I knew what happened I heard a male scream and spun onto my stomach, everything seemed to move in slow motion as I saw Gage falling to the ground with a hand on his side. My eyes widened as his head hit the wooden floor, his face contorted in pain. Callen grinned and turned to face me with a few drops on blood splattered across his face. I barely noticed, I couldn't take my eyes off of Gage's rapidly paling form. For a few moments, the room was silent, before I let out a scream at a volume I never thought I could reach. I got to my feet as quickly as possible and began running towards him, only to be stopped by Callen pushing me onto the floor. "This fight isn't over." He growled, raising his knife above his head as a droplet of crimson red landed on my cheek.
As I began to process what was happening I rolled out of the way of the oncoming blade, rage slowly but surely clouding my sense of judgement. I grasped my sword, which laid on the floor a few feet away. Slowly I rose to my feet and pushed my bangs out of my face. My eyes narrowed at the red-haired male in front of me and I pulled my sword back. With a loud battle cry, I rushed forward and swung my sword blindly, a felt something warm hit my face, followed by a high pitched scream. I opened my eyes and froze in my tracks, Lillian was on the floor before my eyes, blood dripping from a wide gash down her stomach. I gasped, and while I wasn't paying attention, I felt a searing pain in imy right eye, then all I could see was red.
My hand flew to cover the wound in my eye as I fell to my knees, another wave of pain coursed through my head and back at the same time as tears began to mix with the blood dripping down my cheeks. "Die." That was the last thing I heard before a felt the sensation of Callen's knife piercing my spine and blood rushed from the newest wound. I found myself on my side in a puddle of my own blood. I saw Callen's mad smirk from above me, followed by the faint shadow of figures in the doorway, before the world went black.
As silence engulfed my very being, I couldn't help but notice a blinding white light, but yet, it was only a small speck. I found myself slowly approaching it as it grew larger and larger with every step I took towards it. A sickeningly sweet feeling of numbness began to come over me, beginning in my legs and slowly moving up my body. By the time I was directly in front of it, it had grown large enough for me to step through it. My eyes widened as I felt myself become compelled to enter, rather than retreat back into the darkness, but then, something began to break me from my trance.
"Hi Charlotte." I recognized that voice and began searching desperately for the one it came from, but couldn't find another soul. "I'm not sure if you can hear me," a brief moment of silence. "but if you can, I want you to know that I miss you." the voice began shaking, as though the person was crying. "Dammit, what was I thinking? I was too weak to protect you. Maybe, just maybe if I was stronger, I wouldn't have let this happen and," another silence. "and you wouldn't be dying right now." Dying! That explained the light. I was shocked, but yet, it was all so clear. This is where everything began to click, if I were to go into the light, I'd never wake up again. I was confused and unsure of what I should do.
