Frankie woke up early on the day of his 16th birthday. His birthdays were usually simple, he went to school, came home, mom baked him a cake, and he went to bed after doing homework. Uneventful and simple, just like his entire life.

Still feeling groggy, he forced himself out of bed. Dreading the idea of going to school, he debated faking being sick... his mom would fall for it, she always does. She's a kind woman, but she works two jobs and that makes her absent minded at home. After Frankie's dad ran off, his mom was left with his debt and taking care of their only son. Their life wasn't hard, but it wasn't easy either.

Deciding against playing the sick card, Frankie starts to get ready for school. He eats some cereal at the table and then heads out to the bus stop to wait.

The bus ride to school was noisy, as always. People yelling, cussing, throwing things. There's always that one couple making out in the back, too. Frankie tries to ignore them all and stares out the window at the scenery passing by him. A hospital, a bank, a boutique, and so many more building pass by them.

Finally, the bus arrives at school. Frankie hops off and goes to find his friends. Josh and Louis have been friends with Frankie since primary school, they all practically grew up together. He finds them sitting at their normal table in the library and plops down next to them.

"Feck, Frankie, you look horrid!" Josh says, eyeing Frankie.

"Take a look at yerself, lad." Frankie leans back in the chair and relaxes. Being around friends made him so much more calm, everyone else just made him a ball of nerves.

"Really, Frankie, yer as pale as a ghost. You feelin' okay man?" Louis says. As he says this, Frankie feels a pain in his back. God, it's the worst pain he's ever felt. The pain started to spread throughout his body and get worse.

"I'm gonna run to the toilet, watch my bag will ya?" Frankie says as he leaps up and runs to the bathroom. The pain gets worse and worse, and Frankie barely makes it into the stall before he starts to vomit.

After he finishes throwing up, his body begins to convulse. The pain becomes so unbearable that everything goes black.

When he wakes up, the world seems a little different. The color of everything was off, and for some reason, everything was really big. Frankie tries to stand up, but can't. Looking down, he notices...fur?

He lets out a yelp, but it comes out as a soft meow instead. What in the hell is this? Frankie begins to panic. This is a dream, this is a dream, this is a dream, he says to himself.

Frankie runs out of the stall, hauling his ass back towards the library. He just needs to find his friends and confirm that this is a dream. Find friends... Find friends.. Find friends...

However, when Frankie gets there, they are gone. In fact, everyone is gone. Looking at the clock on the wall, Frankie realizes that school is over. How long was he asleep for?

All of a sudden, the pain is back. Just like that, his body is back to normal. Frankie stands up, making sure he is, in fact, a human, and heads to the school office.

He had a hard time convincing them that he got sick and passed out in the school bathroom for 7 hours, and he had an even harder time convincing himself this wasn't all a dream.

Luckily, they let him call his mum to get him. His mum was upset, but she still picked him up. She cut him some slack since it is his birthday.
