"Melissa, come downstairs for breakfast!" Melissa's mom, Catherine, yelled from the kitchen. Melissa ran downstairs and served herself some cereal. "How do you feel about the first day of fifth grade, Melissa?" Catherine asked. "I'm not really excited." Melissa replied. Melissa dropped milk and cleaned it. Melissa went to her bathroom and brushed her teeth, she always eats, brushes her teeth, then changes because she doesn't like when she gets toothpaste on her clothes. She changed into a rose colored shirt that went with denim shorts, and a pair of Nike shoes. They were the same color as her shirt. Her backpack was just a black Jansport backpack. Her mom took her to school, and Melissa kissed her mom goodbye. She got out of the car and went into the school building, there were two girls who had short, blonde hair. They looked at Melissa and smirked, "Just because you wore nice clothes doesn't mean you're pretty." "I don't even know you, and I never said I was pretty. I just like dressing nice." Melissa replied. They looked at one another and laughed. Melissa went to her class and unfortunately, they were in that class as well. Melissa sighed and was sat next to a boy that had brown hair, and was much taller than her. "Hey, what's your name?" Melissa asked hoping for a response. "Brandon." He answered. They instantly became friends. They spoke about how all Skittles tasted the same, and about how it's only the scent that gets confused with the flavor. They got each other's Minecraft username and played after school. "Melissa you've been on your little game for a while now." Catherine told Melissa as she walked into her room. Melissa quickly told Brandon she had to go and got off of Minecraft. "Yeah I was about to get off." Melissa replied. Melissa went down for dinner and ate her chicken alfredo. "Melissa.... your father and I are getting a divorce." Catherine said, breaking the silence. "WHAT?" Melissa asked, in the verge of tears. Catherine continued, "Now, don't get me wrong. We want to take care of you and all, but we can't if we don't love each other anymore." Melissa ran upstairs and began to sob.
No, they can't get a divorce.
I couldn't live without one of them.
I thought you'd get married because you would always love that person.
These thoughts raced through her mind, but she got into the shower, when she got out, she brushed her teeth, then she got into her bed. She heard a silent knock. It appeared to be coming from her neighbor's window. She looked over and saw Brandon, she instantly smiled. She saw a huge paper that said, "Guess what, we're neighbors!" She grabbed a paper and wrote, "Does this mean we can talk ALL the time? :)" "Yes :)" he responded. They talked until 11:00 p.m. The next day at school, they were inseparable, they talked during class, all recess, and during lunch. They learned so much about each other. Melissa found out that his mom had a miscarriage. Brandon found out about how Melissa's parents were getting a divorce. Again, they talked until 11:00 p.m. (This some Taylor Swift stuff)

One month later

Melissa couldn't believe that she actually had a crush. Brandon was so kind to her and encouraging, but, she didn't know that he also liked her. So, that night, she told him. He told her that he also liked her, they were both happy. She was excited for school and wore a white shirt that matched with her pearl earrings. She wore black leggings, and black Nike shoes. She always had great outfits no matter what day, or time. Brandon and Melissa discussed their dream jobs that day, it turns out, they both wanted to be photographers. "Well Brandon, I'll obviously be the better one." Melissa teased. They laughed at her joke and kept talking.

Two weeks later

Melissa came to school crying the day her parents finally got divorced, her eyes were as red as blood, and her nose was stuffed. She was called numerous names.
"Attention seeker"
"Cry baby"
"Ugly"
"Rain cloud"
"Bloody Mary eyes"
The name calling made her cry even more and Brandon asked her what was wrong. "Today was the day my parents got divorced." She said, pushing the words out of her mouth.
He gave her a huge bear hug, and comforted her. The next day, he brung her all sorts of encouraging cards and candy. She smiled and hugged him.
"Thanks for being so nice to me all this time." She thanked him. Also, they decided to be just friends because they were only fifth graders and were too young to even date.
Melissa told her mom about how nice Brandon was, "Ooh, you got a crush on him, don't you?" Catherine asked.
"Well... Yes, but he also likes me, he told me." Melissa shyly said. "I remember my first crush like it was yesterday, his name was Jay and I had a humongous crush on him. Everything about him was perfect, he was respectful, handsome, but no other girl liked him more than a friend. I was the only one. I confessed to him on the last day of college, and he liked me back, and we dated for about 5 years. I know I shouldn't tell you this, but.. your dad fought Jay, then, Jay thought I was cheating on him, so he broke up with me. Your father then proceeded to convince me to love him, and it worked. But, up to this day, I still love Jay. He's actually moving in next to us today, I'm going to try and start up some small talk with him and hope it goes well. " Catherine confessed. She was twenty nine years old, but she looked just like she did in college. Fit and beautiful.

3 years later

Melissa applied some roll-on lipgloss. Today was her mom's wedding with Jay, he proposed when they were at Disneyland. Catherine wore a beautiful, white, form fitted dress.
One day, that'll be me
Melissa thought.
Brandon was also at the wedding, apparently, Jay was his dad's best friend. Brandon saw Melissa and was stunned, she was wearing a blue and white dress with white flats. Although that sounded like an outfit for a child, Brandon thought Melissa looked mature.
Melissa chuckled at Brandon's face when he saw her. "Hey Brandon." She blushed. "Oh umm hey!" He quickly snapped out of his head.
Wow, she looks great
Melissa's mom had a friend who went to the wedding, apparently, she had a daughter named Daisy, she was the same age as Melissa.
