I run through the bush scanning the trees and ground. He could be half way up a tree by now. He is amazing like that. But I suppose you could say every cat is like that. My cat ran away when he heard the thunder storm start, I didn’t want everyone out in the cold rain looking for my cat, so I decided to go and get him myself.
I’m not too far from the castle when I hear something on the other side of a bush. Yes, that’s right. I am a princess from the 1700’s, and I could easily have asked one or two of my hundreds of guards to come and help me look, but I decided to let them have a nice warm night, and hopefully I would be back before they start to wonder where I am.
I walk slowly to the bush, not because I am scared, but it is quite dark, and the only thing giving me any light is my dim lantern. When I reach the dark, big bush, I peer over it to find a tall tree with its roots half a metre above the ground. Quite odd, but when I step around the bush, and walk closer, I see Mr Buttons, my cat, standing, and sniffing the trunk of the tree.
“Mr Buttons. What are you doing?” I say to him, and though I know he can’t reply he looks up at me and meows. I walk to him, and pick him up. As I start to walk away from the tree in the direction of the castle, when I hear thunder rolling and lightning strike, I jump and see the tree I had been at not too long ago in flames. I hear another roll of thunder, and a lightning bolt strikes not one metre in front of me, sending me backwards with a strong force.
I wake up, to find myself in complete daylight, the sun shining through the gaps of the roof of trees above me. I sit up, and strain my ears, trying to hear if anyone was calling my name, no one was. Have they still not noticed? I look down at my dress, which used to be a pale pinky-white, which is now burnt, and has tears down the front of it.
I stand up, and look around. The tree which I found Mr Buttons at the previous night was gone. Now there were just tall shady trees, covering me like an umbrella.
I feel my hair towering over my forehead and into my eyes, and I flick my very messy bun back, and out of my eyes. I decide to walk in the direction of which I thought was home, though I am not so good at finding it.
In the distance, I hear a buzzing like sound. Sort of like the bees in the garden in spring. But it’s not spring, it’s winter, and now I can really tell that it’s winter. A cool breeze passes over my, and chills my skin, causing goose-bumps to appear on every square inch of my arms.
I feel something jump at my feet. I look down and see Mr Buttons, curling in and out of my feet. I pick him up, and snuggle his warm fur coat. I decide to walk to the buzzing sound. Every metre I walk the sound gets closer and closer, but yet, less like a swarm of bees, and more like, something I have never heard before.
When I exit the trees I see a long stretch of the start of trunks sticking out of the ground. The trees have been cut down. I look around and see a very big green thing, cutting the trees into strips, and a lot of smaller things, with different colours.
The men cutting the trees look up and see me; their faces show confusion and wonder. One man walks over to me.
"What are you doing here?” He asks me bluntly. Quite rudely too.
“I’m trying to get home.” He laughs in my face when I say this.
“What? No one lives out here; there isn’t a house for miles.” He continues to laugh at me, “What’s your name, love?”
“Emma.” I say clearly. He will have to know who I am.
“Okay Emma, you are clearly lost, and you look, umm, like you have been out here all night. So I’ll take you into town, and we can go to the police, and see if anyone’s filed a missing person report.” He tells me. He walks to his blue, thing, and gets into it.
