Jason Todd never had the greatest of childhoods, hell, some may argue he's had it rather rough. Growing up he didn't have a lot and appreciated what little he had, having to steal and rip off car parts for a living really makes you appreciate the little things like half full bottles of water left behind in public parks and the dropped change left on the dirty sidewalks. Anything he could find he'd take and make the best out of it.Tending to his drug addicted mother wasn't easy but it was in a sense... rewarding. It made him feel like what he was doing had a purpose. He had purpose! So when she was gone it left a hole in his heart.

He was all alone, a little orphan boy on the streets who had to tend for himself and the fellow children on the streets. He was like a savior to them, offering them whatever he could and scavenging for more. It was hard work but Jason didn't mind it. Again, it gave him purpose. He had a purpose once more!

That's... all he needed to stay whole.
