"Can you hear me? Hello?" A bright light flashed in my eye. Whoever was talking to me let go of my eyelid. "Blink if you hear me." I opened my eyes on my own and blinked. "Can you talk? Move?"
"Mhm." I said quietly, moving my feet.
"You're okay!" A familiar voice sighed with relief. The bed slowly moved into a sitting position.
"It's you?" I looked around slowly. "Where am I?"
"You're kinda in my brother's lab." He scratched the back of his neck. His brother stepped forward and waved warmly. But his words echoed in my head.
"Lab!?" I quickly sat up by myself and swung my legs over the side of the bed. A metal cuff on my wrist beeped.
"Easy, easy!" His brother gently put his hands on my shoulders. "You had cardiac arrest in that alley, and I had to implant you with a pacemaker! You're still healing and shouldn't stress too much as of right now."
"Eh?!" I tore the thin gown off of me and noticed the scar on my upper chest.
"Whoa!" He covered his eyes. I almost saw her... I sighed. I can still hear him. He didn't do anything to me.
"This isn't that kinda lab, if that's what you're worried about."
"Why would she be worried about that?" The turtle who saved me asked his brother.
"She's a mutant too, dumbass." He whispered.
"Are you?" His eyes shot to me. "Is that why you weren't scared?"
"I am. But, that's not why I wasn't scared." I bowed my head. "You saved me. How am I supposed to be scared of the person who saved my life?"
"How are you a mutant?"
"I can hear very strong thoughts. Only sometimes by choice." I held myself.
"Y-You can hear what I think?" He stepped away from me.
"Right now? Only if it's the strongest thought you have." I rolled my eyes.
"I assume she's the same kind of mutant that April is." The smarter of the two chimed in.
"Who is April?" I bit my lip.
"Oh shit. You don't even know our names." The stronger one smacked his own forehead.
"I'm Robin." I waved sheepishly.
"I'm Raphael. Raph for short."
"Donatello. You can call me Donnie." He pointed back toward the door. "If you don't mind, I'm gonna tell the others you're awake."
"Um." I cleared my throat. "I don't really have a nickname. But it's nice meeting y-"
"I don't know about the others, but I'm gonna call you Birdie."
"Oh." I felt my face heat up. "Sure."
"Leo's gonna be a little hard to get along with. Just a warning."
"I don't think that's too big of an issue." I folded my hands. Great. Y'know what? I shouldn't be surprised. This is so like him. My mouth opened, but I shut it. "He's a control freak, right?"
"Did you hear him?" Raphael's eyes lit up.
"I think he's upset with you for bringing me in." My knuckles turned white with how hard I held my hands.
"Don't be nervous. He's just tense because we haven't had anything to do for a while."
"Anything to do?"
