Chapter Twenty-Seven| Eden

"Theo, babe. Why are you so tense?" I turn to face him as I put on a yellow tea dress for our lunch with my parents and Theo's.

He's sat on our bed just staring at the wall. He then turns to face me and looks me up and down. "I love you." He blurts and then goes back to staring at the wall.

"I love you too." I furrow my eyebrows and go back to adjusting my dress, whilst looking in the mirror. "Theo, you'd tell me if something is going on right?" I look at him through the mirror.

He gulps and nods his head.

I don't believe him.

"Don't lie to me, Theodore." I turn around and cross my arms over my chest.

"I'm not lying, Eden." He retorts and my eyes widen as he gets up and storms out of the bedroom.

What the fuck?!

"Theodore!" I call out after him, storming down the stairs. "You best not be getting an attitude with me."

"I don't have an attitude." He scowls and puts on his white air forces.

"You called me Eden. You only call me that when you're serious or clearly," I point at him, "when you have an attitude."

"I just don't want to go to this lunch." He stands up and helps me put my shoes on.

"You said you'd do this for me and deep down I know you want to do this for yourself too. You want our baby to have as much family as possible." I tell him and I watch him sigh.

"I want our baby to have everything." He whispers and kisses me on the forehead, before handing me the car keys. "I'm sorry, small."

"It's okay, I know you're just nervous about meeting your parents." I grab hold of his hand and we make our way out.

Theo has not said a word since we arrived at the restaurant. He's kept his eyes on the cutlery in front of him and his hand tightly gripped around my thigh.

"How's our little grandchild?" My dad beams, adjusting the glasses on top of his bald head.

"She's good, I can't wait for her to get bigger." I smile brightly.

Iris and Daniel smile at me and then they move their eyes to Theo.

"How did you two both meet?" Iris questions and I gulp.

How am I going to word this?

I get ready to answer her question but Theo beats me to it. "She found me on her doorstep." He mumbles and both couples eyes widen.

I give an awkward smile as my mum looks at me with wide eyes.

"You were homeless?" Iris asks with a hint of sadness in her eyes.

"No." Theo simply says. "I was taken as a baby, used as an experiment my whole life." He picks up his water and ignores Iris and Daniel who are looking at him in shock.

Iris bites her lip and her eyes begin to water. "H-How old are you?" She stutters and I watch as Theo continues to stare at her blankly.

"Twenty-five." He blinks. "My name is Theodore Thomas." That's all it takes for Iris to break down, her husband begins to comfort her but he also seems to be in some state of shock.

I'm in shock at how Theo is showing no emotion at all.

My parents keep looking between us, silently questioning if we are taking the piss.

"Eden, Theodore, is this true?" I slowly nod my head and my mother gasps. "Iris, this is your son!" I slowly close my eyes as my mum gets too excited.

"I know this is a bit overwhelming, Mr and Mrs Thomas but Theo and I would really appreciate it if you were to do a DNA test." I give them a kind smile but it quickly falls when Iris shakes her head.

"My baby boy died! He was a stillborn child, he is not my child." She grits her teeth.

"Darling, he could be." Daniel says, looking at Theo. "Please, Iris." He pleads.

"It's fine if you don't want to." I start to get worried with how distant Theo is being. "I've managed to live without you my whole life."

I give Iris a pleading look and she sighs, clenching her eyes shut. "I'm sorry." She whispers and my shoulders sag in disappointment. "I shouldn't of been so harsh, I'm sorry Theodore. I just didn't expect this all to happen so suddenly."

"So you'll do the DNA test?" Iris nods her head at my question. "That's great, isn't it Theo?!" He nods his head and looks away.

Something else is definitely playing on his mind and I plan on finding it out.

"Could you please give us a minute?" I get up and everyone nods. I take Theo's hand and drag him outside the restaurant. "What is wrong with you?" He frowns and shakes his head.

"Nothing." He rolls his eyes and that's where I draw the line.

"Don't fucking roll your eyes at me, Theo!" I look up at him and scowl.

"Don't swear." He scowls back and I look away feeling myself about to get super frustrated.

"You're hiding something from me, Theo. This whole time I've been thinking you're in a mood because of your potential parents but then I keep seeing you check your phone!" I throw my hands up in the air. "You're barely ever on your phone."

"It's nothing." He shrugs and I shake my head in disbelief.

"Right, sure." I give a tight-lipped smile and make my way back into the restaurant leaving Theo to stand outside by himself.

"Is everything okay, sweetheart?" My dad questions as I sit back down and nod.

"So whilst you were gone we found a place where we can do the DNA test and they are happy for us to come in tomorrow." Daniel beams and smiles up at Theo who has decided to come back in with a small pout on his lips. "What do you think Theodore?"

"Mmm." He shrugs and I have to give them an apologetic smile.

"We'll be there." I tell him.

"Small?" I ignore Theo as I make myself a cup of tea. I can feel him behind me and then he wraps his arms around my stomach.

I shrug him off and finish making my tea.

His phone begins to ring but he chooses to hang up, however it continues to ring until he has to turn the phone off.

I scoff and make my way upstairs to bed, Theo follows close behind me.

"Sleep on the sofa." I say with my back towards him and slam the door in his face.

Theo chooses to ignore me and makes his way into the room. "Small, you've been ignoring me for a while now." I place my tea on the bedside table and get into bed.

"Who is calling you?"

"It doesn't matter." He makes his way over to my side of the bed and crouches down in front of me. "Cuddle?" He looks at me with wide eyes and I feel myself giving in.

"You can stay in here but keep to your side of the bed." I know this will be hard for him because he always wants some sort of skin to skin contact with me.

He nods his head slowly and makes his way to his side of the bed. He lays on his back, looking at the ceiling. "I love you." I tell him and he smiles gently.

"I love you, small, so much."
