DEPARTURE II

Shani opened the door. When Eleonor's eyes met hers, she ran into her arms. Shani tenderly caressed Eleonor's head.

"Stop crying lil baby.". She smiled at Eleonor and whipped her tears with her thumb.

"If only you could've been my mother!". Eleonor looked at her friend with sad puppy eyes.

"I might be taller but I'm still younger than you." Her smiled faded away. "I was wondering..."

"What? Is everything ok?", Eleonor asked worried

"No forget about it."

"You can be a real weirdo sometimes"

"Said the girl that fought a snake because it swallowed her tampon." She added while mimicking strangulation with her hands.

"That tampon was precious ok. It was my last one."

"You're rich! You could ask anyone to go buy some for you."

"I hate when you say that. I'm not like those monsters at my school. If that's how rich people are supposed to be then I don't wannit." She answered with her hands on her hips.

"You always deform what I say." Whispered Shani while she put her fingers on her forehead to express her exasperation.

"You started." She smirked.

"Anyways." Shani rolled her eyes. "Why did you cut your hair? They were so pretty and voluminous."

"It's just hair. It will grow."

"You're not answering my question."

"Some senior girls I beat up before...It was lunch time...I was sitting alone, as usual, then a group of senior guys took a hold on me. I was trying to get out, but I couldn't. No one helped me...they just sat and watched. One of the girls, the one that I broke her nose, came with scissors and started to cut my hair in front of everybody."

"So, you let those bitches cut your hair like that!"

"Shut up! I'm not done. Then I started to scream and cry and as expected the lunchroom supervisors acted as if they were deaf and blind. Some student laughed; others stayed quiet. When they were done, they left me alone. Suddenly I wave of intense rage took over my body and I ran to them and started to fight every one of those fuckers."

"I'm not supporting violence but that was necessary."

"Yeah.... but I still got in trouble because of it. They turned the situation against me and now I'm punished for the next two weeks."

"See, I hope you won't fight anymore after this."

"I have to. Or else who will fight for those that can't?"

"Hmm...well be careful to not hurt yourself in the process."

"Ok mom." Eleonor responded with a playful tone in her voice.

Shani rolled her eyes. She came closer to Eleonor and smelled her.

"Eleonor, go take your shower now!"

"Ok! Ok!"

Shani left the room with a bad feeling. Eleonor was going through so much, she didn't know if she had the right to tell her about what she heard earlier. She thought that it was a family business and it should be handled by the members of the family only; but then she realized that if Gold happened to know that Eleonor and him were not related, he might not hold himself back like he was doing right now. Shani felt atrocious for thinking like that and tried to shove away the idea. She convinced herself that she did it for her best friend's sake and not for her selfish interest. She walked pass by a mirror and analyzed herself. She had long black curly hair, a beige complexion that had been darken by the sun and small hazel eyes. Although she had an ordinaire appearance, she thought that she was not ugly. She whispered; "What the fuck am I doing and what the fuck am I thinking?". Shani opened the backyard door discreetly and left the house. She saw that Gold waited for her. Every time that he was with her, she couldn't stop herself from having butterflies in her stomach.
