Ally’s eyes shoot open and she takes a deep breath in. What was that? Ally thinks as she looks around. The pain in her head has vanished like a ghost and her eyes see normal. She instantly notices that she isn’t in the nurse’s office anymore, nor is she at home.
Ally lifts the galaxy print blanket off of her and she slowly slides off the bed she woke up in. She carefully makes the bed; admiring the design of the blanket. When finishes, Ally looks around the room.
The walls of the room are designed in the same ways as the blanket, all for the occasional spaceship. The door of the room is adjacent to the bed. It is shaped like a spaceship. The carpet in the room is also patterned like the moon. In the corner of the room is a shelf. Ally slowly walks over to the shelf, her hand brushing the wall gently as she walks. On the shelf are
little toy figures. The room looks as if it belongs to a child. Ally picks up one of the figures, studying it. The little figure was of a superhero. This makes Ally think back to what happened
earlier.
“That had to be just a dream,” Ally whispers to herself with a soft shake of her head.
“What was ‘just a dream’?” a familiar and calming voice asks from the doorways of the room. Ally turns to the door slowly, the toy still in hand. The voice is coming from the pink-haired girl, Comet. Ally smiles at the sight of Comet. Comet makes Ally really happy.
‘Hey, Comet,” Ally says coolly. Instead of a smile or something like that, Comet just shakes her head. Ally frowns a little when Comet doesn’t smile back, but she hides it with
another fake smile.“Enough with the ‘hey, Comet’ stuff, what was ‘just a dream’?” Comet says impatiently.
Ally just looks at Comet with a blank face, for Comet doesn’t normally act like this. Comet notices Ally’s confusion and her face softens. “I’m just worried about you, okay. I’m sorry if I made you sad or something,” Comet says softly, trying to comfort Ally. Ally shakes her head
softly and lets out a tired sigh.
“I had a weird dream—well—I thought it was a dream. I saw something, Comet, and it wasn’t the best thing I’ve seen in my sixteen years of life,” Ally lets out a deep breath after letting out the one thing that she didn’t want Comet knowing. “It’s nothing serious, just a headache I guess,” Ally mutters in an odd frustration. Comet’s face lights up for a split second, but she instantly replaces that look with a soft, even loving, look.
“It’s okay, Ally. Just take your time to think of the answer. It will all be over sooner than you think, stay strong,” Comet smiles while speaking. She says this like these are the last words
that she will say to the girl, and little does Ally know, they might. Comet looks at her wrist. There is a watch there. A watch Ally doesn’t recognize, nor has she seen it before. “We should go to bed,” Comet says, coolly.
“Where am I going to slee—” Ally starts to ask a question, but she is quickly cut off as Comet takes off her shirt swiftly. Under her shirt is a tank top. All Ally could do is blink in
confusion. Ally is frozen in place as Comet quickly changes in front of her. Comet softly smiles at her ununderstanding look.
“Here, silly.”
Ally lies on Comet’s bed waiting for the pink-haired girl to come back from the restroom. The lights are dim in the room; the way that Comet likes it. It helps her sleep better. Comet’s
lights are a lavender shade, this color is one that she sees Comet wearing a lot. Ally realizes that she doesn’t have her phone with her. This isn’t that concerning to her, for she doesn’t use her phone all that often, but she really wants to check something. She sits up and looks around until she sees a faint blue glow from the corner of the dim room. There sits her phone, charging.
A smile appears on her face. Comet had put her phone on the charger while she rested. Comet really is the most caring person in the world.
Ally slides to the end of the bed and slips off. She stretches and started walking towards her charging phone. When Ally reaches the phone it is sitting on a small table. This table is
about at Ally’s waist. Ally reaches out and taps the screen softly. The smooth dark screen comes to life from her soft touch. The room is lit up by the bright light of the small phone on the
table. Ally squints from the blinding light being emitted from the device. She slides the bar down
and quickly turns down the brightness. On the screen was a Cosmic star-filled sky. There were two unread texts and three notifications from YouTube.
Ally opens the texts. One of them was from Violeta, the student council president and one of her closest friends. The text reads: Hey, I heard what happened at school. Are you
feeling better?
The text was from yesterday, so Ally replied with: Sorry for replying late, I was dying haha. I’m feeling a lot better thank you!The other text was from an unknown number. The message from the number was chilling. A chill ran down Ally’s back as she reads it aloud, “Hello, Ally, we are waiting for you to
respond. Remember to think about it well. We want a good savior, not someone who is undecided. Haha. If you are undecided then we might bring you here ourselves. When you can, give us an answer. Just reply with YES or NO. Great speaking to you, see you soon…” Ally looks at her phone in mixed confusion and fear. “What am I supposed to do? This isn’t how I
wanted this to go,” Ally whispers. Right after the words leave her mouth Comet walks in.
“Hey, Babe,” Comet greets Ally with a sweet smile. Comet sees the emotion in Ally’s eyes. “What’s wrong?” Comet asks with a head tilt. Ally shakes her head, a thing she does a lot.
“Nothing, just a weird number texting me. I’ll just delete it,” Ally sighs. Comet frowns, she feels like Ally is always keeping secrets from her, ones that she might relate to or might already
know. Comet kneels down and slips behind Ally, her arms snaking around her waist. Comet’s soft breathing calms Ally. Comet has always been able to calm Ally. “It will be
okay, Ally. Don’t worry about it,” Comet softly whispers in her ear. A deep chill rattles down Ally’s spine. Comet’s warmth is quickly removed as she stands to her feet. “Let’s go to sleep now, okay? And yes, I asked Irene if you could stay,” Comet smiles to Ally as she swiftly moves to the bed.
Irene is Comet’s caretaker. Comet’s parents were killed when she was young, so one of the teachers at their school has been taking care of Comet. Irene has always been great with
kids and she loved Comet. Comet also has always felt safe in Irene’s home. Ally likes it at Irene’s home too. There is just something about her and her house that has always made others
feel safe in its presence.
Ally slips under the covers next to Comet. It has been a while since she last sleep with her. Ally has missed Comet. The two girls have been slowly being split by schoolwork and
studying. Ally has been studying pretty hard for her finals that are coming up next week and
Comet has been doing whatever comets do, shine?
“I love you, Ally, don’t forget that, okay?” Comet whispers, wrapping her arms around the other girl. “Even though we have been apart for a while, are we still dating?” Comet asks Ally, her eyes shining with a bit of fear. Ally reaches up and pats Comet’s head. “Right, Ally?”
Ally nods with a grin. “Yeah, of course! I love you so much, Comet. We have been through a lot, and I know that we will be together for a long time!” Ally whisper. She kisses Comet’s forehead softly. “Please don’t ever think that we are apart because we aren’t, and I don’t want to think
about us apart,” Ally looks into Comet’s deep blue eyes. In her eyes was fear, but not the type of fear that she recognizes. Comet smiles softly and cuddles up to the other girl. "Goodnight, Comet.”
The two girls lie together in the star-filled room in peaceful silence. But, Ally lies awake. Her mind drifts to the text and all of the things that have happened throughout the day. Today was not a normal day, and hopefully, tomorrow will be better and a lot less weird.
