After their heart to heart, Dean and the girls built a funeral pyre for Jo and silently watched her burn. After the fire died out along with the remains of Jo Harvelle-Winchester, the last of the Winchester line went back inside their home. Dean needed to introduce his girls to someone.
Dean told the girls to wait in the living room. The house was a mess, but he'd get that later. Right now he needed to tell the girls something.
"Sam, Elly, there's someone you need to meet," he started. "He's an old friend."
Suddenly a man in a trenchcoat appeared next to Dean. Both girls were taken aback, not expecting the angel. Dean and Cas had had a bit of a falling out after Sam's death and Dean had never allowed his girls to meet Castiel before now.
Samantha immediately tensed and thought demon, but she didn't smell sulfur.
Ellen jumped up from the couch and yelled "pretty!" then preceded to wrap her arms around Cas's legs.
Dean smiled at the confused look on Cas's face and said, "this is Castiel, he's an angel."
"Hello Dean's offspring," Cas said with an awkward smile.
Samantha held back a smile and scrutinised the man. Why had Dean never told them about angels? Why was he showing them one now?
"What kind of name is 'Castiel' anyway?" She asked.
"Well..." Cas started.
"Don't be an ass Sam," Dean scolded.
"No promises," she whispered under my breath.
"Cas is here to help us. You'll get used to him, he's just a little strange." Dean smiled down at Ellen as she giggled.
"So he's like our new baby sitter?" Asked Sam, teasing her father.
"Sure Sam," Dean replied with a smirk. "Castiel, Angel of the Lord, world renowned babysitter," Dean joked.
"I am not strange Dean, nor have I ever knowingly my sat on a baby," Cas glowered at Dean.
Now Sam laughed. Cas looked so confused and betrayed.
"Where'd you find this guy Dean? Are all angels like him?" Sam pointed to Cas with her thumb.
"Actually yes," Dean admitted. "Well now that the introductions are over, Elly, you can let go of Cas's leg, how bout lunch?"
{...}
Dean actually took them out to lunch, like to a restaurant. Well kinda, it was just Biggerson's. They all ate except Cas; apparently angels don't eat food, or at least they don't need to.
Sam decided she liked Castiel, for what reasons, she didn't know, but he gave off a good vibe. He was even a little cute, in a 40-year-old man kinda way. It was funny how so soon after her mother's murder Sam was able to laugh again, even Dean seemed happier. Cas just brought a kind of light with him. Sam very much wanted to know how he met her father, so she asked.
"So how did you meet Cas, dad?"
"I raised your father from perdition," Cas said before Dean could stop him.
She raise her eyebrow at Dean.
"He rescued me from hell," Dean said, defeated.
"Wait wait wait, you went to hell? You DIED?" Sam almost shouted. Why was this the first time she was hearing of this? I mean you should tell your children whether or not you've died before, right?
"Yes, I died," Dean said. "Several times actually."
Now Sam was even more interested but then she had a thought.
"If you came back, so can mom, right?" she had found a new hope.
Dean's face suddenly turned sad. "Maybe ten years ago, but not now. What's dead should stay dead."
"But we could get her back if we wanted to?" Sam was so confused, why wouldn't he bring mom back?
"No. Me and your uncle Sam were brought back too many times, and after I killed Death, the reapers wouldn't allow any more resurrections," he said sternly.
Sam had heard a little about Dean killing death, and she guessed what he said made sense, but now she felt even worse. That tiny bit of hope had raise her spirits just enough for her heart to be crushed all over again.
"Oh," she replied, and she didn't say much else.
