I woke up to the sound of the birds singing outside my window. I hated the sound when I was little, but now I find it soothing. Plus, it's a lot bearable than an alarm clock.
I opened my eyes and looked around my room. It was light out, I couldn't tell the time though so I checked my phone.
8:30 AM. 3 texts from my dad.
I didn't know why he was getting so frantic.
I hadn't been awake long enough to realize that what had happened the last night wasn't a dream, and I had really been accepted into the school.
I didn't have time to do my makeup so I did my hair in a quick up-do, put on a simple outfit, grabbed my suitcase and ran outside to meet my cousin.
I looked over my shoulder as I was closing the front door when I heard my cousin's sarcastic voice."Well look who decided to finally wake up."
He spoke with a smile on his face so I didn't feel too bad about waking up late. I still should've set an alarm. It was an important day.
"I'm sorry Eunwoo... I should have set an alarm. I didn't mean to be so late.." My voice trailed off and I looked at the ground, breaking eye contact.
He laughed and shook his head as he reached for my suitcase and lifted it into the backseat. "It's fine Y/n. We're not late or anything."
I got into the passenger seat. "I still feel bad"
He got into to car, started the engine and handed me a wrapped box that had been sitting on his seat. "Don't feel bad."
"What is this?" I asked with a curious tone.
He rolled his eyes as he put the car into gear and began driving off. "It's a present for you. Open it."
I carefully unwrapped the box, and pull out its contents.
It was a simple journal. Its covering was beautiful but still simple. I looked at him for him to tell me what it was for.
He smiled at the road as he made a left turn "It's for your lyrics. I know how much you like writing songs, and I figured it would be a nice gift if you got into this school, and you did so.." He looked at the book. "Viola."
I smiled at the book and them him. "Thank you. I love it."
"No problem." He murmured as he continued driving. We made small talk as we continued the drive for a bit, and the rest was silent. Twenty minutes later, we pulled into the parking lot of my new school. We got out and he pulled my suitcase from the back and handed it to me "Do you need any help with anything?"
I smiled warmly as I glanced at the school. Its entrance seemed welcoming and I couldn't wait to take my first steps through the gates. "I think I got it. Thanks for bringing me."
"No problem Y/n. Have a good first day." His voice was calm as he smiled, but it wavered as if he was losing something. I was leaving for this school 2 cities away from him. Just when we were starting to become close. He seemed more like the older brother I never had instead of just my mom's nephew.
"Hey, we'll hang out this weekend okay?" I reassured him.
His eyes met mine and they sparkled with joy. "You promise?"
"Yesss" I chuckled. "We'll do something fun"
He pulled me in for a hug and sighed. "Have fun and get good grades. But mostly have fun." He joked.
I hugged him back and closed my eyes as I sighed. "I will."
As he drove off, I began walking up the steps of my new school with an ambition to make my mom proud.
