CHAPTER ONE - HOW WE MET
We met on a dating site, we've been talking for a few days now and finally decided to meet up. It was a later night seeing as I just got off work, we decided to meet up at a local high school parking lot and go for coffee and an adventure in his truck. I hurried home after work because I was pretty excited to meet Laine finally. It hasn't been too long since we started talking but I feel like I've known him for longer than a few days.
I quickly take a shower, throw on some make-up, a simple natural look, not wanting to look like a clown on the first date. I put on a pair of skinny ripped jeans with a band t-shirt and a plaid bomber jacket over top, looking casual but still looking great or so I think to myself.
Driving to the high school parking lot I start getting nervous and jittery, I pull up to what is his vehicle and shoot him a quick text saying that I'm here and believe that I'm beside him.
He responds with "Yes I'm right beside you feel free to get in and we'll go get some coffee".
I do a quick once over in my mirror and decided to turn off my car and get out, locking it up behind me. I do an awkward wave to Laine outside then reach for the door handle. I hop in the vehicle and the air is awkward, neither of us knowing how to address each other. He looks over and gives me a quick once over and smiles, showing his bright teeth, his smile reaching his eyes. Bright blue eyes that mesmerize me, he meets my gaze and says "Hey Natalie"
I give a warm smile back and give a hello back to him, as he turns over the engine. We start talking about what kind of music we like, jamming out to some old school rock music.
I feel comfortable with him in a way that feels like I've known him for a while, I can sense that he feels the same about me. Opening up about his uncle's death, a suicide. He's telling me things about himself that i can tell are hard to share, but he's pushing through it, talking about all the things he misses when things were easier for him, how rehab changed him but didn't stop him from falling back into old habits, how he wants to make his sister proud of him and shares how everyone thought that he knew where his uncle went when he was missing before they found his bones and torn clothes. It's hard for me to not cry for this boy, he has been through a lot and I feel for him.
After his explosion of truths he takes out a bag of cocaine and puts some on the center console, starting to crush it up into a fine powder just waiting to be snorted up his nose.
"I know you wont judge me if i do this because you haven't yet." he says in a quiet voice almost like he's embarrassed but needs to feed the craving of the high. "Would you like some? I know you said you tried it before but I'm not going to make you do anything you don't want." he stares into my eyes waiting for an answer, all I do is smile and laugh, shaking my head. I know I can't follow back into old habits that once were, but I know that right now he needs this, he needs the high to distract his mind.
After we talk for about another hour or so I suggest that he should drop me off back at my vehicle because it's getting late. He understands looking at the clock realizing its 11pm.
"Wow didn't realize that it was that late, sorry" He laughs off turning up the music heading down the road. It wasn't long till we were back at the high school, I looked towards him and smiled as he pulled up at my vehicle.
"Thanks for tonight I had a lot of fun,I really need this thanks."I tell Laine with a silly grin sitting on my face. I go to reach for the door handle slowly getting out. He tells me to have a goodnight and to text him when I get home so he knows I get back safe.
