It all started on the little boys birthday. He had just turned 10 and was coming home. It started out as a normal picnic. You know, the snacks, sun, and his parents (mostly his dad) chasing him around. But his parents were acting weird. The little boy thought nothing of it and continued to play.

"Hey Xan, come here buddy. Me and mommy have something to tell you.'' His dad said, pulling his wife close.

"Okay dad!" Little Xan yelled while walking over to them. He couldn't wait to eat his cake and get presents. He soon reached where his dad and mom were sitting on the blanket they used.

"What is it dad?" Xan asked, sitting next to his mom. She had her hands covering her stomach. Xan, being young, didn't realize what she was doing.

His dad looked at his mom and nodded after she smiled. "Honey, how do you feel about being a big brother?"

"A..big brother?" Xan thought about it. He had wanted a little sister but he heard that they steal all the parents time. "As long as they don't steal my time from you, I would love it!"

His dad smiled. "That a boy. Well.. You're mom is pregnant with a little baby." His mom beamed when Xan smiled.

"Really?!? Ohmygosh yay!!" Xan yelled getting up. He was so excited. His dad chuckled.

"Do you wanna go see if it's a boy or a girl?" His mom asked, getting to her feet with her husband's help. Xan nodded excited.

They all smiled and started walking in. That's when they saw the smoke. There was fire on the fence and all over the house. There was no way out except through the house. His dad got on his knees with tears pouring down his face.

Xan started coughing and crying. "What's happening dad?!"

"Son, we need you to run through the house and get out as fast as you can. Me and mommy will be right behind you. I love you son." At the end of that speech, his dad and mom were sobbing. His mom was holding her stomach.

" I love you baby. No matter what, okay?" They all hugged as the smoke and fire got closer.

"I-I love you too mommy, daddy. You promise you'll be behind me?" Xan asked. Both parents nodded. Xan took that as a okay to start running through the house. He soon stopped about halfway because he didn't hear any footsteps behind him and because the smoke was making it hard for him to breathe.

"Mommy? Daddy?" He yelled. Nothing answered him except the fire that was climbing up his torso. He started yelling as the flames licked his face. Xan couldn't breathe and his whole body felt like it was on fire. Black and white dots clouded his vision. Xan wanted to stop and just lay there but his parents told him to run out..

Xan was almost asleep when he heard voices. It sounded like yelling. He heard a lot of heavy footsteps coming his way.

"I found the boy! I can't see the parents though!" The voice yelled. Xan felt something cold wash over him. Someone picked up little Xan and ran outside. He was placed on a bed right before he passed out.
