Chapter 1
I’ve never really done anything like this before. Im really not sure where to begin with this, but I've been thinking about it and I guess the best place to start was the moment I knocked on my dorm room door. The noisy rattle of my knuckles against wood, could likely be heard all down the hall. To be honest I was a little worried about meeting my roommate, I mean, what if we didn’t mix well. We have to live with each other day in and day out for the rest of the semester, the right or wrong roomates could most likely turn my college experience into heaven or hell. I heard the chattering sound of voices before the door was yanked open by a short red-head. Upon the sight of me her face lit up with a slightly mischevious smile before she pulled me into a tight hug.
“Thank God, its been so boring around here I thought I would die. You are my savior right? My roommate? Of course you are!” she pulled me in for a hug again and I tried not to wince.
“Were going to be best friends!” she exclaimed before backing up, “Where are my manners? Please come in!” she turned around and headed for another room as I followed. “That ones yours” she said gesturing to the bed in the left hand corner of the room,” This one of course is mine” this time she pointed to the bed on the right already had the contents of her suitcase scattered across it. Seeing no reason to fight over identical beds, I began placing my luggage at the foot of the bed before letting myself collapse onto it.
“Have you been around campus yet?”
“Of course I have, I can’t wait to show you around, I got us invited to a welcome party a couple dorms down, alcohol’s free and endless. You’re coming of course right?”
“Definently, any excuse to celebrate, escpecially if free food and drinks are involved. I don’t think I ever got your name.”
“Oh yes of course, my name is Cara Red”
“I’m Sara Debora Marshal” I exchanged.
After spending some time getting to know my roommate and unpacking, I rushed to get to my first class that afternoon. I was only halfway there yet already 5 minutes late for my math class. To be honest I thought math was a waste of time but I needed the credits. Math was hard enough without being late on the first day but, too late for that I suppose. I was in such a hurry that I didn’t see him until I ran straight into him, the force of our contact caused me to stumble, I managed to regain my balance but he didn’t. He ended up collapsed on the floor with the stack of ungraded papers he was carrying scattered around him. I reached my hand down to help him up.
“Thank you,” he said with a sigh, “believe it or not im actually not usually this clumsy,” given his age I figured he was one of the profesors. He was wearing a sports jacket over a t-shirt with a silver cross covering his heart.
“Well it was sorta my fault,” I said a little embarresseedd “I did kinda run into you at top speed”
“Late for class on the first day? I remember what that was like” I thought I detected just a hint of a southern twang in his voice. He scooped down to pick up his papers.
“Let me help you I said” in an effort to redeam myself.
“No it’s alright, I don’t want to make you any more late then you already are” he said with a smile.
“Thanks so much” I said with a sigh of relief before I took off.
