C H A P T E R
O N E. . . . .
AS I BOARD the plane that will be taking me to Colorado, I start to feel giddy and excited, because a) I will be away from some of my family members. b) I will finally experience a change in weather and c) I'm just extremely excited.
"Will you hurry up?" a voice snaps from behind me and I see an old woman, carrying a small bag, her white hair curled at the top of her head, and he glasses hanging from the tip of her nose as she pokes my back with her cane, giving me a nasty look.
"Yeah, yeah, sorry," I mumble, quickly snapping out of my day dreaming and strolling into the plane, taking a seat in a chair after putting my suitcase in the drawer above the seats.
I shift around in the uncomfortable seat, trying to settle down in relax, but it's impossible when you have kids kicking at the back of your seat, and you're sitting in a crappy chair.
I huff, giving up, and when I do, as I plop down, I finally get comfortable and I sigh in content, closing my eyes.
But, of course, my relaxed moment is ruined when someone sits next to me, shuffling around noisely while kids keep kicking my seat as they shout and squeal.
"Hey, can you help me with this?" a breathless, tired voice asks from beside me and I open one eye, peeking at the person sitting next to me to spot a girl looking flustered and nervous.
"Um, sure, with what?" I reply to her and she points at her suitcase, which is dangling out of the drawer, bordering on collapsing onto me and her. I widen my eyes and quickly unbuckle my seat belt, jumping up and shoving the case in the drawer and shutting the hatch closed tightly before sitting back down, smiling at the girl, and closing my eyes.
"My name is Lily, and yours?" She asks, as if not noticing how tired and lazy I am at the moment, and when I send a pointed look her way, she just smiles, waiting for my answer.
So I grudgingly give it to her, "Arden."
"That's a pretty name," she admits, a smile gracing her lips as I send her a small smile in thanks, and I turn around trying to get comfortable.
"I'm going to this academy. . . for prodigies, what about you?" She asks suddenly, and I silently gasp in surprise. She seems like the type to have a special talent anyway.
"Me too," I grin, though she can't see me, so I give her a thumbs up before closing my eyes, blocking out all sounds and movements.
I heard a small mumble from her, but I ignored it, too busy getting ready to fall asleep. Peacefully, hopefully.
. . . . .
"Hey, Arden, wake up!" I hear a light voice shout in my ear and I wake up, bumping my head against Lily's on accident, and I give her a quick apology before grabbing my stuff, and following her out the door. As we step out of the plane, I grimace at the cold air, slightly shivering.
Why didn't I bring a jacket or a sweater?
I mean, I'm in shorts and a crop top, for christ's sake!
"Did you know it was going to be this cold?" Lily asks from beside me and I shake my head, and she giggles before handing me a spare jacket from her bag, and I gladly accept it before sliding it on.
"Thanks," I smile warmly, and she does so back. I guess she isn't that bad.
"So," she starts as we walk around, looking for the exit. "What do you do? Sing? Art? Instrument? Act? I act, you?"
"I actually play piano," I tell her, grinning when she gives me a surprised look. She looks me up and down, as if judging me or analyzing.
"You seem like the type to draw, but whatever," she teases, flicking a strand of hair that fell loose from my ponytail, and I tuck it behind my ear.
"Well, you seem like the type to sing, so. . ." I trail off, not really knowing what to say, so I leave it at that as Lily laughs, a nice sound for a cheery girl like her.
"Um, where do we even go?" I ask her timidly, a little nervous and anxious to see where we're supposed to be headed.
"Oh, I was told we were supposed to meet near the exit, that's why we're going this way," she explains, waving her hands around like she was teaching a class.
"Okay."
. . . . .
"Lily, are you sure you know where we're going?" I ask her nervously, looking around to see people staring at me oddly as they are all bundled up in sweaters and jackets, many layers of clothing covering them from head to toe.
"Yeah, totally!" She said over enthusiastically, and I send her a suspicious stare and she just smiles, a forced one at that and I arch an eyebrow but follow her anyways.
After a few minutes but what felt like hours, we arrived at the exit but we saw nothing but cars parked everywhere, but no car that stood out, specifically telling us that we were supposed to go there.
"Lily." I state rather coldly and she grimaces, nodding.
"I know, we're lost."
. . . . .
a/n haha, poor lily. she's too distracted most of the time.
