I set my drink down and watch as everyone started pairing up to dance to the way you look tonight by Frank Sinatra.
"Awe that's adorable," my best friend, Violet, squeals from next to me as she witnesses her younger brother ask a girl his age to dance.
We were currently at her dad's party at the country club. I'm not even sure what it's for exactly. But it's a great excuse to get dressed up and dance, so none of us were really complaining.
"M'lady," My boyfriend walks over to me and extends his hand out. "Would you like to dance?"
I smile and let Emmett lead me to the dance flower. I rest my hand on his shoulder as we sway to my favorite love song.
Emmett and I met in first grade. I was sitting alone during lunch and he walked up to me with his black eyeglasses, declaring us friends from that day on.
After sitting next to me in first grade, he hasn't left my side. He introduced me to the rest of our group and became my whole world. We started dating the summer before middle school when he held my hand and told me that he wanted to continue holding it for the rest of our lives.
Kinda corny, huh?
But here we are, finishing up our senior year and ready to start the next phase of our life.
"I love you, Penny" Emmett whispers into my ear as the song ends.
"I love you too" I plant a kiss on his lips before looking up to stare at his pretty green eyes.
He takes hold of my hand and takes me over to the bar to get a drink.
"You look really hot by the way. Did I tell you that?" Emmett gives me a once-over and bites his lip.
"No, you didn't tell me." I laugh because this is the reaction I knew I'd be getting.
"Well, I'm sure you know how obsessed I am with you in dark red. So..." He trails off as he pretends to be crawling on skin of my arms with both his fingers.
I felt my face heat up.
Man, it's been years and this guy still makes me blush.
"You don't look too bad yourself, Emmyboo. Tux and all" I wink at him. But I don't get to find out what his snarky remark was gonna be.
"Yo, love birds. We're getting bored." Our friend, Caleb, walks over to us with Owen and Violet trailing behind.
"I kind of am too," I confessed.
"Oh thank god," Violet lets out a breath. "Let's go tell our parents that we're leaving then we'll meet outside."
And with that, we all separate to find our parents.
Once our parents found that our group was only getting closer since elementary school, they took it upon themselves to do the same. After that, we'd all do everything together. Weekends, family trips, and parties like these were all spent together.
"Mom, we're leaving okay?" I informed Mom that I have my keys and that if I end up staying over at Vi, I'd text her.
"Penelope, just don't forget to text me okay?"
"Yes Mom don't worry. You look stunning by the way," I point to the navy blue, long dress that hugged her new body.
A year ago, my mother decided that she was tired of hating her body and went on an intense diet during the week. And exchanged her stress-eating habits with putting on her running shoes and jogging around our neighborhood.
