Chapter 2:

"Well," he patted my head, "Take your work seriously..." Those word's Gill had said echoed in my head so much that it had leaked into my dreams. That scenario just continued to play and I didn't even understand why.

"Come on, Melissa," I spoke to myself aloud. My forearm rested over my eyes as I laid in bed wide awake and well aware of my thoughts. "Why do you keep thinking so much about this?" I sighed.

I forced myself to get up even though the sun hadn't risen yet. I decided to go outside and step into the hot springs that was behind the barn. As I slipped into the water, I stretched and then wrapped a towel around my head. Everything but the upper part of my face was submerged into the steaming hot spring water. I shut my eyes and did my best to focus on this feeling only.

The water. The steam rising up and opening my pores. Burning my face a little. The abs.

"THE ABS?!" The beating of my heart increased rapidly. "W-what the hell, Melissa! Out of all the other things you could think of?!

I immediately stood up.

"Um...," an unfamiliar voice presented itself so suddenly that I froze on the spot. Water dripping from my bare skin in front of a complete stranger wearing a long, white lab coat.

I plummetted my butt back down to submerge my body, hoping the steamy water would cover me up.

"JU-STH WHOBBLB DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!" I screamed while gurgling hot spring water and trying to cover as much as possible with my arms and legs. I wanted so bad to shrink to the size of an amoeba and do...amoeba things.

"I-I'm sorry!" He turned around quickly, his long black hair whipped around him and billowed in the early morning breeze. "I just wanted to introduce myself as the new island doctor! I didn't mean to intrude!"

"Ohhggth, right!" I gurgled.

"N-no! It's true!" He had his back turned still.

"And stho you decthided to check in the hogth springs?!" I swallowed some water.

"I-I...I actually saw it from a distance, but the steam provided a good camoflauge. I honestly didn't see you there when I was thinking of trying the hotspring out myself..."

I lifted my head a little, "You...you were on your way to introduce yourself to me but before that you saw my hotspring and decided to try it out?" I stared at his back view. He was also pretty tall. Probably slightly taller than gill. His hair was quite long and thin but the color was raven black. He had it tied neatly in place. "...Are you stupid?"

I caught him surprised at my remark.

"I-I am not! I'm a doctor!" He turned around to put his foot down and then immediately realized that I was still in the hotsprings covering as much as possible. "O-Okay, well. I'm going to take my leave now." He walked away with both hands fisted and awkward. Missing a step, he slightly tripped causing him to pause for a moment before regaining his steps.

"I guess I should get ready for the day as well before I turn into a human raisin." When I saw him leave my property, I stood up and wrapped myself with the towel I used for my head and ran back home with my wrinkled clothes and shoes in my arms.

When dawn came, I got ready to tend to my animals and crops. When I was done, I decided to go mining again. I needed to make quick money anyways in order to repair my chicken coop and barn. And the five thousand gold I spent yesterday paying the mayor back dented my wallet...by a lot. I walked through Harmonica Town with the Waterfall Cave as my destination.
