Me, Scott and Stiles get to school to find Lydia and Allison waiting. "I called you guys after I went into a fugue state and ended up somewhere I never intended to go," Lydia says.
Her fugues, so far, have always led to the discovery of a dead body. This time is no exception as the body of Deputy Grahame has been left on top of the Beacon Hills High School sign in the middle of campus. The next day, Stiles keeps an eye on his father as he investigates Deputy Tara's death at the school. "Stiles, step off. I have the FBI and half the state coming in to assist in the investigation because they're not going to get away with killing one of our own," the sheriff tells his son.
"Dad, I had a connection to Tara, too. She often helped me with my math homework when I was waiting for you at the station," Stiles points out.
In Jennifer's class she is lecturing on idioms, analogies, metaphors and similes as tools a writer uses to tell a story. I glare at her the whole time. I'm sitting behind Lydia and she is drawing a tree. "I wasn't aware you had so many hidden talents," Jennifer comments.
Lydia retorts, "You and every guy I've ever dated."
"Hello?" I agree.
"Now, those are examples of an idioms."
Ms. Blake continues her lecture. I whisper to Lydia, "I guess she didn't hint we were being literal."
Lydia smiles and nods. "I guess not."
Ms. Blake goes on to explain that idioms require both the author and the reader to have a common knowledge base of language or culture. She gives 'jump the gun' as an example explaining that both author and reader must know about the use of starting guns in racing to understand the meaning of the idiom. She also mentions 'seeing the whole board' as another example. Stiles recognizes the idiom from chess because his father plays the game. Scott and I hatch a plan for Lydia to distract Aiden so that we can talk to Ethan. "The druids are emissaries, right?" I ask.
"So what if the Darach was an emissary to the Alphas?" Scott speculates.
"Okay, first of all, I cannot believe that we've gotten to the point where a sentence like 'what if the Darach was an emissary to the alphas?' actually makes sense to me," Stiles retorts.
Me, Scott and Stiles get a chance to talk to Ethan in an empty stairwell. "Why are you even talking to me? I helped kill your friend. How do you know I'm not gonna kill another one?" Ethan wonders.
I notice he glances at Stiles. "Is he looking at me? I take that as a threat. I will break off an extra-large branch of mountain ash, wrap it in wolfsbane and roll it in mistletoe and shove it up your freaking..."
I clear my throat really loud. Scott restores order and tells Ethan he knows the twin didn't want to kill Boyd and says he believes Ethan would not do something like that again. Ethan tells the story of the twins. "We were Omegas within a pack. We were badly abused by their Alpha and their pack mates. They were all brutal killers."
"Why didn't you just become Voltron Wolf and fight back?" Stiles asks.
"We didn't know how to do that back then. Deucalion helped us develop our innate ability to merge our forms and we killed our oppressors and now believe we owe fealty to the Alpha Pack," Ethan explains.
Ethan explains that all of the Alpha Pack's original emissaries, with the exception of Deucalion's, are dead. Ethan is suddenly seized by a sharp pain in his chest. "Are you okay?" I ask.
"It's not me, it's Aiden."
I grab his face and my vision flashes. I see Cora and Aiden brawling in the locker room. I flash back and cough. "He's fighting Cora."
