It had been a week since Eddie had arrived at Billy B's Records and Blues and they had only exchanged solemn "Hello's " or "Good Morning!"s. Billy hadn't stopped by all week and she felt so alone. Thankfully Chris had surprised her and they went to lunch. They discussed future gigs and he passed her a demo as they ate their club sandwiches.

"Can you pass this to Billy? Its the demo he asked for"

" Sure thing, hows Susan? I miss her"

" She's been busy with the band, you know finding gigs and equipment"

Lizzy sighed, " yea surely, Tell her to call me when she gets a chance. I need to talk to her"

They continued to talk until she had to head back and resume her shift. They were friends but friends in music - not personal. Eddie was personal and she needed someone to talk to that wasn't  Chris, he wouldn't get it the way Susan would. Back at Billy B's ,Lizzy felt the tension. All she wanted was to talk to Eddie. To ask him how he was, how he found Seattle and even hold his hand.

Wait hold his hand?!

"Too far " she murmured.

Eddie * pops his head around a record rack* " Did you say something?". she blushed and shook her head, how the hell could he have heard her?! She looked down at the register - fumbling. It was jammed and she couldn't get it to shift back into position. She tried shifting the drawer from side to side but it remained stuck. Eddie walked over to the counter, " do you need any help?"

Lizzy : "It's jammed"  she sighed but inwardly her heart was thumping so loudly that she could swear that he heard it. she could smell Davidoff cool water cologne on his shirt and wished he would pull her close and surround her with his flannel shirt.

Eddie: "Here , let me " ,Lizzy stepped aside.

he slammed his hand down and smacked the drawer and almost like a miracle it shifted , but a handful of quarters spat out of it compartment and fell to the floor,

Eddie: "awh shit, I'll get it". He knelt down and began picking the coins up.

Lizzy: * laughs* " I knew that would happen, Billy did the same thing"

Eddie: "So you let me do it so I would suffer?"

Lizzy : "no. I- I didn't think..."

She froze as he picked one that had landed next to her converse. He paused too and looked up at her, his eyes were so blue and so earnest , she almost felt compelled to pull him toward her.  He stubbornly held his gaze and she couldn't look away. The butterflies were furiously circling in her stomach and her throat seemed to be closing on her.

He broke the moment. He coughed stood up once and returned the quarters back to the register. " I'm sorry. You just look like -"

Lizzy : "someone you know?"

Eddie: "yeah something like that"

Lizzy : " I'm sorry I don't know what got into me either"

Eddie: " can I ask you something?"

Lizzy : *surprised* " yeah sure thing!"

This had been the longest conversation they had since their meeting and she didn't want it to stop.

Eddie: " Do you have a boyfriend?"

Lizzy : *shocked* " I uh..."

Eddie: "I saw you with that guy so I was wondering."

Lizzy : " do you mean the tall man with dark, curly hair? "

Eddie: " yeah, he seems like a cool dude. He came by earlier and i saw him at a gig a few days ago. His name is Chris or somethin'?"

He seemed casual but she knew he was playing cool .She remembered the gig because she had seen Eddie there among the audience and couldn't take her eyes off him. He didn't see her but his eyes were searching .

Lizzy : " Yes. Chris."

Eddie: " Are you two?...'

Lizzy :" uhm no we aren't. We're friends."

Eddie: "Just friends?"

Lizzy looked at him questioningly, " Yes , he's married to a good friend of mine"

Eddie: "Oh." He paused then said, "I'm sorry"

Silence.

" I guess what i really want to ask is , Can I take you out?"

Lizzy : "Out?"

Eddie : "Yes . Out like a date?"

Lizzy blushed and looked away. " I- I don't really go out"

Eddie: " I'll be good, honest , and if you hate me we never have to talk again. Please?"

Lizzy : " Okay"

Eddie: *grins and tucks his hair behind his ear* " Cool"

Lizzy : "Cool" she replied.

Silence

Eddie: " I'll just get back to -" * he points to the records*

Lizzy : "Yes and i'll... " she trails off.

Eddie leaves. "Cool? what the fuck, man " he thinks as he walks away. " i'm going to need a drink to erase that shit" . Lizzy looks out the window, her mind is on her dream, an image of him appears in her mind.

 Fuck not now!
