📝 Shaw Rocket Prize Teen Writing Contest
Exciting news, Wattpad! We've teamed up with Shaw Rocket Fund to bring you an incredible opportunity to motivate and inspire you to use this time to start creating your next story idea and share it with the world. The Shaw Rocket Prize was created as a way to showcase Canada's amazing youth content, and give younger audiences a say; recognizing that you have opinions and letting you tell us your stories and express what really speaks to you.
Now it's your chance!
Come up with an idea for your next novel, and write your first chapter. In 1500 words or less, write the first scene or chapter of a story you'd love to see adapted into a film.
The story can be about ANYTHING you've always wanted to see developed for the big screen!
3 finalists will be chosen to win a Microsoft Surface Pro 7, and from there, the Shaw Rocket Prize team will be selecting one winning author to pair with an acclaimed scriptwriter for a 1-1 writing session!
Not sure where to get started? Here's some FAQ's that might help you out:
Q: Does my story need to be under a specific theme or genre?
A: No! We're looking for stories across every genre!
Q: Do I need to submit a script or screenplay?
A: No – this can be anything from an idea arc, to the first chapter of a world that's yet to be built. Your imagination and the 1500 word count is the only limit!
Q: Can I submit fanfiction or mature content?
A: Unfortunately fanfiction and mature content will not be permitted as part of this contest. Please keep in mind this aimed at teen writers and younger audiences, so your stories need to be age appropriate to qualify for the prize.
⏳ Timeline
- Deadline to enter this contest is May 2, 2020, 2020 11:59PM Pacific Standard Time
- Judging will be between May 3 and May 12, 2020
- Winners will be announced on the Shaw Rocket Fund profile on May 15, 2020
📜 Submission Requirements
- First chapter of a new story 1500 words or less
- Posted as a new story on your Wattpad profile
- Submission must be in English
- Entrants must be between the age of 13-17 to be eligible for prizing
- Story must be tagged #ShawRocketPrize
- Any story not compliant with Wattpad's content guidelines will be removed immediately
🏆 Prizes
Three (3) finalist entries as selected by Shaw Rocket Prize & Wattpad will receive:
- 1 of 3 Microsoft Surface Pro 7 (ARV $899.00 CAD)
- Be featured on the Shaw Rocket Fund's profile (Wattpad.com/user/RocketFund) in a reading list
One (1) grand prizewinner selected from the finalist pool above will also receive:
- A one on one writing session with an acclaimed scriptwriter in the film / entertainment industry (TBD)
