Music is the only thing on my mind. I put my
earphones on blast and I am lost in the sound of Aaliayh's music. It's astonishing and it's the only thing in the world that calms me down. I hope one day I can sing as well as her. Right now I'm not so confident in my voice. I do enjoy singing though"SHAY! Come over here!" Ma called out loudly on the top of her lungs. I guess Aaliyah will have to wait. I get up slouching by the annoyment of never being alone and enter ma's office quietly waiting for her to speak.
She looks at me,"Carry these files to the old woman across the street's house." She said making no direct eye contact. Does she really expect her 10 year old daughter to go to a complete stranger's house to make a delivery for her. She waved her hand in my face kotioning for me to leave. I guess she doesn't care about me. But I already knew that.
I walked up to the door but it opened in front of me. An older woman with dark brown hair and a light blue dress motioned towards me and said, "Hey you must be Shay. Your mom sent me to come pick up some files." Okay that was weird. Ma specifically told me to go across the street myself and give her the files. If she was even her.

After staring her up a few times I asked, "Who are you exactly?". I didn't recognize her. Maybe she was new to the neighborhood. I waited a few moments until she finally spoke. "I'm Kansas. Kansas Meyers. Now can I take those of your hands." She said in a rush constantly looking behind her. Why was she so hesitant to answer my question? My mom told me to carry them to the old women across the street. She didn't look too old.
"Where do you live, Kansas?" I was anxious to find out who she was. " Oh, around here. It's a tight neighborhood and I'm across the street. I decided to come to you so I wouldn't waste your precious time trying to find where I live. Okay I guess she was sophisticated enough. I started to hand her the files but then quickly pulled them back to say. "My ma told me to give em' to the women across the street directly." I waited for her to respond. Nothing. "I should see if you really live across the street." She didn't say anything.''Relax, I'm just joking. Here you go ma'am." She quickly grabbed them and strutted away. I came outside to see which direction she was going in and saw her walking across the street. I guess she wasn't lying. Besides who would randomly want them. I don't know what was in those files except the fact that the digits, 4561 were imprinted on the cover of them.
A few moments after that I decided to go outside. It was much more peaceful out there. There was never any traffic or street noise so I grabbed my notebook and began writing and put in my headphones sitting on the grass. Ma didn't like it when he sat on the grass because of ticks and mud but I didn't care too much. I learned to take risks with a mom like mine. She was way too strict. "Shay, don't go in the kitchen. I'm running hot water. "Shay, don't make noise I'm thinking" When all I ever really was doing was breathing but I guess taking up oxygen was not allowed either.I started harmonizing when I heard a voice.. Was it Ma? I took out one earphone. "Hello" A male voice said but was nowhere to be found. I saw two fingers sticking through the little whole that was about 4 inches at the bottom of the tall fence my Ma built a long time ago to block basically most freedom for me.

I then said, "Who's there?". I touched his little fingers.
"Who are you?" I asked. A few moments later he still didn't respond. I heard shuffling and scratches. Finally, he stuck a little rolled up piece of paper. I slowly open it. It said,
Dear ?
I live in the light green house next to yours.
I like coming outside and hiding from my dad.
He's really mean to me so I always run away and
then come back to this spot.
He's so clueless he doesn't even notice I'm gone.
What an oldie. -T
I laughed. What an oldie. He said, He heard me laughing and joined me. I quickly ripped out a page from my notebook and started writing. "Don't you talk?" No answer
Dear, T
I came out here to avoid my mom too.
I don't have a dad but I have her so,yeah.
She's working right now but if she
finds out i'm out here
She'll be really mad. Like a mad red face.
But that's okay. I like when she yells it's the
Only drama in my life. -S
I passed the paper under the hole right back to him. He quickly snatched it before I even got a chance to fully get it through. He seems happy, or eager. I could almost see him grinning but not really since I have no description of him but his tiny hands. It took him a while to read before he laughed. Or maybe he just didn't find it as amusing as I did.

"How long are you gonna take Tiny?" I teased judging by the size of his hands. He sounded confused "Tiny? That's not what the T stands for i have a name." Now he talks? How about he tell me that name of his. "Well you have tiny hands so I figured I should call you that." I responded. "Oh, well what should I call you?" he asked. I took a moment to think should I tell him my name? No, I don't know him.
"Hhm, how sadistic or smart. Something witty." I said, He laughed at that. Maybe he did find me amusing. He then replied," I think I'll call you soul." That was a weird name. Well I guess I'm not one to talk. I called him Tiny."Why?" I finally asked him. He started, "Well because." he was quiet. "I heard you humming, you humming, you have a really good voice.
I like your voice, you have a good one. That and you're talking to a stranger you have a good heart and soul. It's rare to meet a dancer like you." He said. Well he's really something, maybe we can be friends. . "Dande?" I asked. "Short for dandelions I like to name my friends after flowers. But your the only one I've called a flower." His voice got quieter.''I thought you called all your friends after flower nicknames?" I was really confused. "Well you my only and first friend soo.." My heart pumped. Friend? I actually had been called someone's friend. " I like it Know what I think I'll just call you Ti for short." We both laughed. "Oh and by the way, you're my only and first friend too.
After that day we spent weeks after weeks, month after month, day after day secretly talking through that little hole. Until one day we didn't. He suddenly moved away without any explanation or anything. I didn't even know his name or what his face looked like. I went back to having little faith in myself and never singing again. I'm still waiting for the day I meet him again. I know we'll be together again. Or so, I hope.
