The soft crunching noise of leaves being stood on came from two people: Kim Nano and Duncan Livid. Strolling through the forest, the two said nothing, but they didn't mind. It was nice, just them, the trees and the ground to accompany them.
Duncan, worried for his apprentice, kept flickering his eyes to her arms, which were covered in a thick purple goo. The girl by his side obviously noticed, and she inquired to her teacher.
"Dunc, you look nervous. Uhm... May I ask why?" Kim asked, nudging her friend. Although she didn't want to admit it, she has a small crush on the slightly older boy. When anyone points it out to her, she exclaims something along the lines of 'No, I don't!' or 'That's not true!', but everyone knew. Well, apart from Duncan himself. He's oblivious to Kim's infatuation for him, although he feels the same.
"Oh, it's nothing..." He trailed off, scratching the back of his neck. Kim didn't look impressed. The wind picked up, and some fallen leaves scattered around the small girl and the tall teacher.
"Duncan Livid, there is something you are not telling me." Kim scowled. Dunc sighed. It's no secret that Kim was infected with the flux, and nothing wrong can happen if you tell someone you're worried for them. So, why not?
"Well, it's just that your fl-" The scientist began, but was rudely interrupted by a crack coming from somewhere in the woods. It was only a small noise, but even small things can change someone's life. And this was no different, for it would change both their lives. For worse.
