The sound of my phone vibrating on my night stand wakes me up in the dead of the night. I decided yesterday was the last time i was going to be beat by my father. Because of his alcohol problem my mother left us when I was 8. Now I'm 17 and going to college, I just got accepted to University of California: RIverside. I hop out of my bed and creep across the floor trying to keep the boards from creaking. Luckly for me, my father is a heavy sleeper because it seems like every board want to creak.I grab my suitcase with everything I need for right now.
I grab my application for Starbucks before running out the door not evening shutting it, that would cause more noise. Luckly I still have access to his bank account, so I can buy my train ticket to Riverside. I snuck around my little quiet town in the middle of know where. I arrive at the train station an hour later. The train station was dark and eerie, it makes me want to run away from it but its my only way to Riverside. I board the train, this was going to be a long long train ride.
I board the train, this was going to be a long long train ride. I take the seat farthest from anybody, well there are only like three people in this cart. I plug my headphones into my ipod, then gently slide them into my ear. I go through my songs until I find Centuries by The Fallout Boys. I pull my knees to my chest before falling asleep.
I wake up to here the conducter yell "RIVERSIDE TWO MINUTES!". I turn off my ipod and throw it back into my bag before standing up and stretching. The last two minutes seem like 2 hours. The doors open up and I bolt right out heading to Starbucks to go ahead and turn it in so I might have a job. It took about 20 minutes to get there. I hand the application to the manager. She glances over it will quick. " You're hired." I nodded casually, my hands stuffed in my pockets. After receiving a work schedule, I left the Starbucks, onto my next point of interest. A place to live.
I decided to get a local newspaper, and see if there were any ads for somewhere cheap. Particularly, an ad for a roommate in a nearby apartment complex. Curious, I tore the ad out of the paper, before disposing of it in a nearby public trash can. My flats clicked on the sidewalk, as I took rhythmical steps, following the beat humming out of my earbuds. Taking a deep breath, after I winded up to the second floor, and knocked on the door, number 243.
