"I can't believe I ended up with a daughter like you" the empty whiskey bottles said it all. whenever he'd drink, he was like a broken record, saying the same sad bullshit every time. a part of me would say he didn't mean it, but who am I kidding. I laughed at the thought, but it was okay.

mom left when I was 13, took everything she needed, and walked out the door. before she left she told me she was going out to get some groceries , little did I know,  "groceries" was all the way up in Ohio, and had hell of a lot of money. dad came home that day with a cake, kissed me on the cheek and started calling out her name, I told him she left, he asked where, I said I don't know.

when she didn't come back, he filed a missing persons report, deep down I knew she was long gone. I told myself it was for the best, they would argue everyday, but were too broke to get a divorce. they slowly fell out of love, so she started going out more, found herself a wealthy young guy.

she sends me a card every year for my birthday, talking about how great her new fucking life is, got herself 2 replacement kids and a husband named Greg, fuck Greg. when I turned 17 she asked if I wanted to come up and live with them, I burned the card and never wrote back. she might hate dad, but he'll always be my dad, I can't abandon him as well, especially with the person who abandoned both of us.

before I left for school, I left some ibuprofen and a cup of water on his nightstand. I slowly closed the door before i started cleaning this shit hole we call a "home". after I did the best I could, I closed the door and started walking to school.

it was a grey morning, since it rained the night before. it smelled like freshly cut grass and rain. it didn't take long before I reached Sidney's house, we usually rode the bus to school together. even though we weren't close, we told each other things we'd never tell anyone else. I knocked on her door and she quickly came to open it, "hey" she sighed, I gave her a smile and walked in, her house was always cold.

"you want anything to eat before we go" she asked, opening her fridge, knowing I never eat in the morning, "I'll take some juice" I replied, she grabbed some orange juice, a cup, and walked over "oh, I forgot to tell you" she gushed, I took a sip and raised my eyebrows, motioning her to continue talking, "billy asked me out" I nearly choked, if I was being honest, I was surprised, he never really showed interest in Sid. "that's great" I agreed, she took my empty cup and placed it down in her sink.

"we better get going" she said, grabbing her bag. I did the same and we headed out the door.

we sat at our usual table, "what's up with this shitty lunch food" Stu complained like he usually did, Randy sat next to me, Tatum sat beside Sid and Billy, which by the way, was so hard to watch, it was so awkward. "and yet your fatass always eats it" I said, while taking a bite of my apple, "yeah well I hope you choke on that McCarthy" he sarcastically clapped back, I rolled my eyes. Stu and Tatum recently started dating as well, so Randy and I have been hanging out more, usually just watching horror movies at his place. "guess it's just you and me again Meeks" I said putting my elbow on his shoulder, he dramatically fell against my shoulder, "I can't do this anymore Carthy" I laughed a bit before my eyes went over at Billy, him and Sid were talking and all I could think was, why him? I get it, he's cute or whatever, he's also weird and mYstErIoUS .

sometimes he really creeped me out. the rest of the time we just joked around with each other, after lunch we all went to our classes. most of my classes were with billy, we'd always pass notes and make each other laugh. but that didn't happen today, today he just sat in the back beside me, looked out the window not saying a word.

after school I headed to blockbusters with Randy, we both worked there despite the boss hating our guts. I placed myself behind the counter and Randy started putting the movies where they belonged, I had my hand on my cheek and was doodling something when I heard his voice, I looked up and of course, it was Billy, he always came here and rented all the horror movies. I continued doodling until I heard footsteps come to the counter, and he placed it down, "The Exorcist, great choice" I said as he handed me the cash, "when does your shift end" I looked at the clock and then back at him, "in four hours" I replied giving him his change.

we were really close friends until we started pushing each other away. we still talked here and there, but not like how we used to, I guess we had our own set of problems to deal with.

I watched him as he walked away, I sighed at the thought. "can you believe it" Randy said making me snap back to reality, "Sidney chose that over me" I groaned, whenever he was around I knew that was what he was thinking, "get over it Randy, they probably aren't even gonna last that long" I said walking out from the counter and over to him, "still" he tried to argue, but knew that whatever he said, in the back of his mind, billy would always be better than him, "anyways, The Shining, or Poltergeist" I said holding up both the movies, "I wanna see Jamie Lee's tits, so.." he picked up Trading Places and I rolled my eyes, "you can watch that in your own time dimwit" I said as I slapped him in the head.

after work Randy dropped me off at the coffee place I always go to, I like it better at night. there's not a lot of people and its quiet, I knew that my dad wasn't going to be home so I liked staying here as long as I could.

I bought myself a iced coffee and sat down, on a cold night like this you would think there would be heating in this place. I heard the doors open and footsteps coming closer in my direction, I took my eyes off the empty rode and noticed the two people coming down and sitting across from me. "what do you guys want" I groaned, taking a sip of my coffee, I dont even know why I got it, I wasn't planning on staying up.

"we need your help" Stu hesitated, I was surprised, what could they possibly need my help for, "remember Steve Orth" Billy said, I looked up at him and our eyes stayed glued to each other for a moment. of course I remember him, the typical jock who thought he'd get what he wanted. I hate even thinking about that night and ever since, I've had this bolt of anger towards him that I'd never felt for anyone. a sudden desire to just make him feel pain, make him feel what I felt.

the only person I told was billy, "remember what you told me that night" he stopped for a moment and looked me in my eyes, "I saw a side of you, that I never saw before. that fire in your eyes.. don't you want to make him suffer for what he did to you" yes, I do. shit, what the fuck am I saying, no I don't, say no.

"yes I do"
