[A/N] Originally written on August 1st, 2019. The first few essays will be kind of old. Later, I'll start writing new ones. This is a new segment where Imma be ranting about my favorite fictional boys, cause dang there's a lot of them! I'll try to go in chronological order of when I began liking them.
First, we've got Pit from the Kid Icarus Series (though Kid Icarus Uprising is when he's at his best). He is the servant of the Goddess of Light, Palutena, and the last remaining angel. Medusa petrified every flying angel in the first game, inadvertently passing over Pit, who has wings but is incapable of flight unless someone temporarily grants him the power. He is Palutena's most helpful aid and right-hand man, because the Centurions are pretty dang useless.
In terms of Pit's personality, he is very much a gem. He's a lighthearted, playful person. He's punny, optimistic, and free-spirited. None of this, however, gets in the way of his sense of duty. He is fully devoted to his Lady Palutena. Despite this, he is even more dedicated to doing what's right. He takes down countless foes who should by all means be able to obliterate him: Pandora, Medusa, and even Hades, to name only a small percentage. And he does it all with one-liners that scale from quippy to badass to a beacon of hope.
Regardless, he is still inclined to trust others and to see the best in people. Viridi, the Goddess of Nature, hates humans, and in her arc she's trying to wipe everyone out and restore nature to its original balance. Not only does Pit fight to save humans, who are, of course, morally grey at best, but when a time comes when he needs Viridi's cooperation, he swiftly buries the hatchet. When Palutena goes rogue, he wholeheartedly believes that's not the real her. He's right; during this process, she's being possessed. His social nature and his ability to win people over is one of his greatest assets.
Even when Pandora uses a magic mirror to create a dark version of him, this alter-ego is far from evil. He's self-serving and a little too zealous for battle, but Hades devours souls and wipes out peoples for the fun of it, so Dark Pit's really not that bad. He just basically says, "Fuck the Gods, Fuck everyone." But even he has a heart. He works with Palutena and Viridi to revive Pit when the latter sacrifices himself for him. Pretty good for an "evil twin," huh?
Essentially, Pit is the epitome of what it means to be a hero. The only flaws I can really come up with are that he's impulsive and just a little whiny. But helping him take down evil is such a joy, and for that, I love him.
