Aashi sighed as she found the kitchen empty. She walked up to Abhinav's room to check if he was awake. She slightly pushed open the door and frowned on finding him asleep. She slowly walked in and stood near the edge of the bed.
"Abhi, get up it is morning already. Today's your turn in the kitchen" she called out a little loudly to wake him up. It had been about three weeks since his attack and Aashi couldn't be happier with the changes that followed. They had started talking to each other, asking each other about work and schedules. She now felt happier coming home. She liked the idea that Abhinav had come up with to share the household chores. They had decided to divide the work and take turns every day.
Though she badly wanted to know about his past, his troubles and pain, she decided to wait for him to get comfortable with her. She knew a lot had changed over these three years. And as much as she wished to ask him every doubt her mind had, she did not want to lose out the friendship that was slowly building up again. Sighing she diverted her eyes back to his sleeping form, shaking her head to clear her thoughts.
She called out a few more times and when she didn't get any response, her worries grew. She quickly went near his side, and leaned over to shake his arms. After tugging a couple of times, she felt Abhinav groan tiredly into the pillow as he turned towards her. Aashi quickly stopped shaking him and waited for him to open his eyes.
Abhinav opened his eyes slowly trying to locate the source of disturbance. He felt very tired, his head heavy as he struggled to wake up. Finally when he managed to open his eyes, he saw Aashi standing near his side, worry etched all over her face. He squinted a little, trying to understand his surroundings. Aashi stared at his wandering eyes and noticed it land on her and then on the clock behind her. Within seconds, Abhinav jolted up from bed, his hands clutching his head as the force hit him with pain. Aashi who was noticing him carefully didn't miss the pain that crossed his face as he sat up. Immediately she sat on the edge of the bed facing him and asked slowly, her hands stretching out to reach his face.
"Are you okay? Is something wron- Oh my God! You are burning with fever!" she shrieked worriedly as she felt his skin burn under her palm.
"Oh! Yeah, it could be. My head hurts. Maybe I got the common flu" Abhinav spoke tiredly.
"You want to see a doctor? You can freshen up and I can drive you after we have some light breakfast" Aashi offered.
"No, I'll just take some painkillers. It's just the common flu. I also got to attend a few meetings today."
"Are they really necessary? Today's Saturday and you are not well either, can't you skip them?" Aashi spoke, irritated at his carelessness.
"I actually don't feel like going, but some foreign delegates will be coming over and I can't reschedule the meetings. I'll take pills, I promise. I should be fine by tonight. If not, we can see a doctor tomorrow, okay?" he explained, trying to convince her.
"Fine, I'll get breakfast ready" she huffed, "Freshen up and come. Also, you owe me for today" she grinned trying to lighten the mood.
"Aye, aye captain!" he mock saluted before dragging himself into the washroom.
Aashi made sure that Abhinav had his pills before he left. She spent the day cleaning her wardrobe and starting off with her next project. She texted him around lunch to find out if he had taken his pills and on receiving a positive response, sighed in relief. After getting through a few hours on her project, she decided to make some dinner. Once she was done, she decided to watch some movie as she waited for Abhinav. She suddenly remembered how her mother used to make pepper soup every time she was ill and decided to make soup for Abhinav.
Just when she was in the middle of boiling her water, she heard the door bell ring. She opened the door to find Abhinav leaning over the door frame, completely drenched. A gasp left her mouth as she pulled him inside immediately, helping him settle on the couch. While he slowly leaned forward to remove his shoes, Aashi immediately turned on the heater and rushed to her room. Running back to him, she hastily threw a towel over his head and rubbed his hairs thoroughly, her heart thumping fast with worry.
"Am fine, stop" she heard his weak voice from beneath the towel. All her worry turned to anger as she began yelling at him, disappointed by his careless attitude.
"Have you lost your head? You have a fever and still, you decided to get wet in the rain? You could've just taken a cab or called me to pick you up in the car! Why did you have to ride back on your bike? Who in the right sense of mind does that?"
Abhinav sighed in defeat. She was right for he had no reason to justify his actions. He simply looked up to her angry face and spoke, "Okay, I am sorry. I know I acted stupid, I know it's my mistake. I'll just get out of these clothes and have my medicines after dinner. I'll be fine, don't worry."
With that, he slowly walked back to his room, not wanting to hear her shout at him any further. Aashi muttered curses under her breath as she returned to the kitchen to make her soup.
It had been about twenty minutes now and there was yet no sign of him. Placing the soup in a hot pot, she walked up to his room and knocked at his door. On getting no response, she knocked harder again. She opened the door when she heard nothing only to see him passed out on the bed, the wet clothes still clinging to him like second skin.
