Percy's POV:
I looked out to the endless sea surrounding me as I sat on the lone rock, a few meters from the shore. The ocean was silver were the moonlight touched it. Whenever a wave hit the rock flecks of silver would fly everywhere, like little stars in the night sky. It was so peaceful here, in this one place I could finally be free from all my thoughts and responsibilities that plagued me throughout the day. Don't get me wrong, I loved living peacefully at Camp Half-Blood with Annabeth and all of my friends. But it was just so hard to go back to a normal life after spending so long at war with Gaea. I was constantly on guard, always expecting an attack. Part of it was because of Tartarus, I don't think I'll ever be able to forget that place. If I didn't have Annabeth with me... I couldn't even imagine how much worse that would have been. Every night I would have nightmares about it, and everyday I would jump at a noise, thinking that it was some sort of monster from there. The only place where I could find any peace was here, with the sound of the waves, the smell of sea salt, and the wind whipping through my hair. Completely alone and free of responsibilities. I lie back on the rock and gaze at the stars, searching for the constellations that Annabeth taught me while I sipped my coke. I drifted off and thought about me and Annabeth's future together, gods of Olympus I loved her so much!
"Hey Percy." A voice casually said behind me.
I jumped up and spilled the coke I was holding all over myself. Smooth. But she had just appeared out of nowhere on the rock next to me! How did she get there?!
"HOLY SCHITZ!!! Annabeth you gave me a heart attack!"
She smirked "sorry seaweed brain."
"How did you get here!?!?"
Still smirking she said "I'll tell you later, but first I need to show you something."
"Is it really so important that you had to swim all the way over here at 12:00 am and show me?"
But instead of answering, she dove off the rock and into the ocean.
"WAIT! ANNABETH!!!" I called out after her. Deciding that I really didn't have any choice but to follow her, I jumped in.
As soon as my head went under the water I knew something was up. Usually when I used my underwater abilities I could tell where everything around me was. But for some reason I couldn't find Annabeth. I swam around the rock a few times and tried not to panic. I mean I knew that she could swim, but what some sort of monster grabbed her and dragged her down? Oh gods I couldn't lose her, I loved her!
"ANNABETH!!!" I screamed while I was underwater (it's a poseidon thing, I could talk, breath, and do lots of other stuff underwater) Right before I started to seriously panic, I felt a familiar hand tap on my shoulder.
"Hey seaweed brain." She said smirking.
"Oh my gods ANNABETH!!! Are you okay? That was not funny!!! Never scare me like that... Wait a second how are you..." She put a finger up to my lips, silencing me
"No time to explain" she said.
I didn't understand, how was Annabeth able to talk underwater!!! Or breath, and why couldn't I find her before?!?! This was so confusing.
"Percy" she said, taking my hands into hers "do you trust me?"
"Yes" even with all the confusing things going on, I trusted Annabeth more than I trusted myself.
She looked into my eyes and i realized something. Annabeth's eyes, her beautiful, intelligent, fierce gray eyes... were completely black.
"ANNABETH!" I gasped.
"Everything is going to be okay." She said as I slipped out of consciousness.
