When The Lights Go Out

Chapter 9: Foresight

Una runs up to Wendy with her Lovely Lacey© doll in hand, she holds her with all of her might. She looked up at her big sister and asked in her sweet, childish tone "What was that, Sissy?" Wendy looks down at Una and brushes Una's ebony hair out of her face, she tells her "Stay in here and play with your Lacey dolls and I'll be right back." Una hugs Wendy harder and asks "It's too dark in here to play, can I go with you?" Wendy sees a flash of when her sister got drained. She stares deeply into Una's eyes, she may have been sad that her parents are dead, but she didn't care. She didn't have time to grieve over her parents, she could do that later, all she knew was that she had to protect who she had left, more importantly her sister. She responded to Una's question with a concerned "You can come with me but you can not leave my side, no matter what happens, I don't care what happens, you can't leave me. Got it?" Una nods excitedly, she says gleefully "Yes, Sissy, I won't leave your side no matter what!" Wendy hops onto the floor and lies flat on the ground, she looks underneath the bed and pulls out three black flashlights, she tosses one to Valeri and another to Xera. She walks over to the toy chest and searches through it for a few moments, she pulls out a small, pink flashlight with a princess tiara sticker on it. She turns around and tosses it to Una, Una jumps for joy she a smile shines across her face. Wendy runs over to her dresser and grabs the baseball bat leaning on it, she tosses it to Valeri who was a bit confused. "What's this for?" Wendy walks up to Xera and Valeri and states "Now, I know this might sound crazy, but there's some creature out there that can possess people, take the form of them and drain the life force from people." Valeri dropped the baseball bat and said worried "Oh god..." She then bursts into laughter "That's hilarious!" Wendy shakes Valeri and yells "I'm being serious!" Valeri continues to laugh then states "Yeah right, and there's also a guy with a chainsaw standing outside the door!" She chuckles a bit more before hearing someone revving up a chainsaw outside the bedroom door. Valeri rolls her eyes and says "Yeah right, sorry to burst your bubble but your prank isn't working." Wendy shakes her head and says "I'm not pranking you, we need to go, NOW!" Valeri and Xera roll their eyes.

            Smoke comes into the room from under the door. It takes the form of the girl's' father with a chainsaw in his arms. The girls scream and Wendy wrenches the baseball bat out of Valeri's hands. She ran to the window, she bashed the window open and glass went all over the room and outside. Wendy runs over to Una and picks her up. "Go out the window!" Valeri and Xera jumped out the window. Una held onto Wendy with all her might. Wendy held her close to her chest and they ran to a tree nearby the window. They stopped to catch their breathe, Valeri looked over to Wendy and shouted "What the hell was that?!" Wendy looked back at Valeri and said "I don't know!" Xera looked at Wendy and yelled "How did you know that thing was going to come and get us?" Wendy puts Una but keeps a firm grasp on her hand "Something happened, I don't know whether it was a dream or a vision or what, but I saw all of us at the sleepover, mostly everything was the same as it was in the dream. Everyone died, first it was my parents, then Una, then you guys, and before you could get to me I woke up." Valeri ran up to her and asked "Did anything else happen?" Wendy thought for a second before responding with "Well after you died it said that Xera had a crush on you." Valeri gave her a very confused expression and Xera bursted out laughing "You think I would like her? I would rather date a desk than her." Valeri shook her head and said "I meant did anything else happen that could help us." Wendy began to list off the few things she knew about the creature " One, It drains the life force from people. Two, It can take the form of them. Three, It can possess corpses. Four, it's at least slightly intelligent. Five, we might possibly be in a horror movie and six, it's coming after us so why aren't we running?" Wendy picks up Una and holds her close to her chest. The three start running down the street, Valeri turns to Wendy and asks "Where are we going to go?" Wendy turns to her and yells "Well you're the horror movie buff, where do you think we should go?" Valeri tries to think for a second and yells "We should head up to the Icehouse© up the road." Wendy screams at her "We're in the middle of a horror movie and you suggest that we go get food?! We could die!" Valeri explains "Look, you said we're in the middle of a horror movie, right? (Wendy nods) Then they have to deal with a whole bunch of problems involving the movie, like copyright and stuff, right? (Wendy nods) Then we have to go to a place that has a copyrighted name, I mean have you ever seen a ghost haunt a restaurant or a retail store?" Wendy shakes her head and they run up the road, the creature was still chasing them.

                             After running for a few minutes they finally arrived at the restaurant, they tried to open the door but it was locked. Valeri yelled out "Find something to break the window!" They looked around for a moment before finding a large rock sitting next to the door that wasn't there before. Xera picked it up and threw at the window, it shattered into pieces. They jumped through the window. They all stopped to catch their breath except Una who still had her hand around Wendy's, Valeri stood back up and said "Look for the keys, and no one split up, that's always how they die in the movies. I don't care what your stupid excuse is, you're not leaving us no matter what." They put their backs to each other and looked around, Wendy saw the keys on a table, she ran and grabbed them. She turned around to face the group but only Valeri was there, standing with her face in her hands. "Where did they go?" Wendy asked, Valeri took her head out of her hands and said "Xera said she needed to use the bathroom and Una said she needed batteries for her flashlight." Wendy gave her a puzzled look and said "I thought she was a horror movie buff like you." Valeri shrugged and said "I think she's got a case of first movie death." Wendy gives her a confused look and Valeri continues with "You know, first death, some dumb blonde girl (or in this case stupid brunette) is off by herself and gets herself killed and picks the worst choices to get away like running upstairs or hiding in the bathroom." Wendy nods and asks "What about Una?" Valeri shrugs again and says "Well you can't kill a kid in front of the camera, especially if they're young, so she'll probably die from something that isn't quite as violent." Wendy asks  "Do you think we can kill it?" Valeri shakes her head and says "There's no chance that we can kill that thing, especially since it's supernatural, our best chance to survive is to stay in here." Wendy nods and asks "So, if this is a horror movie, who's next?" Valeri scratches her chin and says "Well, whoever's making this movie would probably label me as the comedian or the know it all, which would leave you as the bland female protagonist with no personality, and even though she makes the worst decisions to ever make in a horror movie she still manages to live through it." Wendy gives her a furious expression and shouted "Hey!"

                       They hear a noise coming from the kitchen and they turn around, Valeri grabs her and tells Wendy "Do not go in there, I don't care if you're getting attacked by a horde of zombies and that's the only room in the world that has the cure, do not go in there. Now let's go." Wendy gives her a puzzled look and says "I thought you said to not leave." Valeri grabs her hand and states "We have to go outside, we have to kill that thing." Wendy gives an even more confused face and reminds her "Didn't you say that we can't kill it?" Valeri shakes her head and tries to drag her to the door, smoke was surrounding Valeri and Wendy stopped dead in her tracks. "Wait a second." Valeri grabs her other hand and continues to drag her to the front door. Wendy's eyes widen and she runs to a closet at the back of the restaurant, then she realizes "It's you, you're not Valeri, I know it." Valeri laughed with a wicked grin on her face, her body slowly morphed into a face that Wendy didn't recognize. The figure said in a low voice "Did it really take you this long to realize it?" It walked slowly to her as Wendy groped for the doorknob, it said maniacally "Just to make this a bit more fun I'll tell you a bit of important information, this isn't movie but you're rather close." Wendy slams the door open and hides at the back of the room. She shivers, waiting for the creature to ambush her.

                Smoke poured into the room from under the door, it formed three figures, each one resembled one of three people she had came with. She closed her eyes tightly and waited for this to end, for all of this to be over.
