NATHANIEL
It was Friday, the Friday. Today was going to be the first time I would go to winter formal, after three years of high school. I asked Tom for help because I really didn't know what to wear so he lend me one of his suits and Matt texted me to wear a red tie so I did. This time, I did not ditch the glasses. They had been a part of me and they would still be, even if I didn't study as much as before.
I looked at myself on the mirror, stroking my messy hair back I decided to give it some shape but still keep it it's natural way. I really wanting to impress Bea tonight, even if she was just my friend. I went downstairs where my parents were already having dinner with my sisters. I swear my mom almost cried about me going to a school's party after all this time.
I bid my family goodbye before driving to Matt's house since he asked me for a ride to the party. Once we both in my truck he asked me if I could pick Anna too, which I had assumed already, I nodded silently humming to the music. I parked on Anna's parking so that Matt could go get her or whatever guys were supposed to do at times like these.
"Come on" he said.
"Wait, what?" I replied confused.
"We have to escort them" he dismissed it as if it was obvious. Them? I got out and we walked towards her front door.
Matt didn't have to knock because once he set foot in the front porch, the big door opened and there appeared a smart dressed Anna with a smile on her face.
"Hey baby" he kissed her on the lips before pulling away to let her say, "She'll be down any minute" she looked at me with a weird glint on her eyes. I shrugged it off as they hugged each other, sharing knowing looks. I now felt quite uncomfortable so I looked away.
However, the uncomfortable feeling I felt left right out the door when I saw her walk down the stairs. She was wearing a short red dress with a small cardigan covering her shoulders. Her hair fell behind her back in curls she didn't usually have. Her smile vanished once she saw me standing there, but even then I couldn't rip my eyes off of her.
"Hey" she gleamed nervously. I offered her my hand to steady her on the last steps and she gladly took it, an uneasy smile forming behind her lips. I gulped, not knowing what to say, as I pushed myself to smile back at her.
"Y-you... Whoa" she giggled softly as Matt exclaimed,
"Okay you two, let's head out already" still keeping my hand on Bea's, I guided to the car before opening the shotgun door for her, knowing Matt and Anna would be kissing the whole fifteen minute drive to school.
Once already driving, meanwhile Matt and Anna made out on the back of the car, I asked Bea, "It looks like these two set us up... No date?"
Her head snapped in my direction. "Uh, no. Got asked by some guys, but they weren't the boy I wanted to go with so..." she blushed suddenly, but hid her cheeks behind her hair.
"I see" I clenched my jaw. I knew she was way out of my league so why was this affecting me so much? She had obviously been asked by many guys. Not wanting to say anything else I turned up the radio to keep me from hearing the sloppy kissing noises coming from the back.
Once at school, I opened Bea's door once again before I locked the car. "You're wearing your glasses" she pointed out with a smile on her face.
"I am" I agreed while she just smiled up at the stars.
"I like 'em" she said before walking inside the gym. I let out a huge breath and followed behind, once inside I got stopped by many of my teammates asking about my date.
