The cold winters day
Only legal paperwork was signed;
No veil
No dress
No tux
No party
No wedding.
On that cold winters day twenty two years ago,
They were pronounced husband and wife by a single sheet of paper.

The warm, muggy night
News was delivered;
No baby
No adoption
Not a new beginning
But a new ending.
On that warm muggy night three and a half months ago,
They declared they were separating to their children, sorrowfully renouncing the paper they signed
All those years ago.

Three spring days came from that paper that unified the couple as a family,
Two in April and the other in May.

Another cold day,
But this an attempt to take a life away;
Not their significant other's,
Not their mother's
Not their father's
But their own.
And so the hospitalization began
On a cold dark day
Declaring a tremulous journey, who knows how long they'll be on it, for the sad and wonderful person.

Fourteen days ago,
This sad and wonderful person's first child was born;
Not the day before their birthday,
Not the day after their spouse's,
Not the week hospitalization,
But the day of.
Now they celebrate that day as one of joy,
One of a bright sun ray shining through all the dark clouds before it.

A wonderful birth
Of another wonderful, happy human being.

A chilly spring night
A conversation sprung between two young people;
Not knowing what would happen in the future,
Not knowing how far they'd get,
Not knowing how if they really even liked each other,
But possibly two months later they would realize.
Every passing week was just another step closer to a new age,
A beautiful beginning.

Eight months later,
They are no longer talking due to certain circumstances;
No longer are they admiring each other,
No longer do they hug,
No longer do they even look towards one another,
But thinking about the other, yes. Not as much as before, but yes.
And the days are few, though not few enough,
To when they can finally be within ten feet of each other, and feel at home again.

And although one will never admit to it,
They think they finally love the other.
