The sound of my alarm buzzed throughout my room. It was early Monday morning. The time, 6:00 AM. I sat up on my bed and turned off my alarm. I looked out my balcony window to see the sun's rays beating into my room. It was January 6th, the first day back from winter break but for me, it's my first day at my new school, Buena High School.
My name is Nick Williamson, I am currently 15 years old. I am a sophomore. I recently moved to New Field, New Jersey in early December with my family, leaving my best friends of Las Vegas behind. Right now, it's just my parents, my older brother, Angel, and I living in our two-story Victorian home.
Knock knock knock "Nick! It's time to get up." My mother said on the other side of my door. "I'm awake," I called. I heard her walk away as her heels clicked on the hardwood floor. I got out of bed and opened my closet door. I grabbed a nice pair of jeans with some rips in it and a nice shirt. I opened my door and headed to the bathroom to take a shower. Before opening the door I knocked and waited for a response.
It's always good for me to knock because the last thing I want to do is walk in on my older brother while he's using the bathroom. Angel has a separate door to the bathroom, Jack and Jill bathroom you can call it. After a few moments of silence, I walked inside to find nobody there. Thank goodness.
I set my clothes down and got the water running to a nice temperature. I cleaned my body thoroughly and brushed my teeth in the shower. Yes, you read that right, I brush my teeth in the shower. I turned off the water, grabbed a fresh towel, and dried myself off. I put on my nice clean clothes and made my way downstairs.
Sitting at the table, Dad was reading the local newspaper while Mom finished making breakfast. She set my plate of food down right as I took my seat. "Sleep well, Nick?" Mom asked. I nodded my head, "Yeah, I got plenty of rest for today."
"Are you nervous?" My dad asked without looking up from his newspaper. I took a bite into my fresh scrambled eggs. Am I nervous? I thought. I don't think so, but at the same time, it is a new environment so I guess so. "Yeah, only a little. Just because it's a new environment." I said. My Mom sat down next to me and placed her hand on my shoulder, "Everything will be ok. You'll have lots of fun at this school. I know you will."
I nodded my head, "Thanks mom, I appreciate it." I said. "Your brother already left for work. He went in early today. You should finish up kiddo, your bus will be here soon." She said. I quickly check my phone to see the time. 6:46 AM! Jeez I'm going to be late on the first day! I scarfed down the last bits of my food before running upstairs, grabbing my backpack, and headed out the door.
Once outside, I felt the nice cool breeze on my skin. Snow all along the ground and birds chirping in the trees up high. I walked about fifty yards down to the bus stop and waited for my bus to come. To my surprise, I was the only one here. I sat down on a large rock after brushing off patches of snow of course. I pulled out my sketchbook and started sketching the buildings and landscape around me.
Looking up and down at the scenery I got a little aggravated with the school bus came, blocking my view of everything. Come on bus, Move! I thought. Suddenly a voice called out to me. "Hey! You coming?" I looked on the bus and saw the bus driver looking at me. "Oh! Sorry!" I said. Grabbing my stuff and running onto the bus. "I don't recognize you. What's your name?" The polite bus driver asked.
"Nick," I said sitting in the first empty seat across from him. "Well Nick, I'm Mr. Murphy. I'll be your bus driver for the school year." I leaned back against the window and put my sketchbook into my bag. I can finish the drawing later. I thought. I put my head against the window, watching the scenery pass.
Pulling up to the next bus stop, I could make out that there were a few kids there. When Mr. Murphy came to a complete stop and opened his doors, I sat up to allow anyone to sit next to me if they wanted to. They all got on the bus, but this one boy caught my attention. He sat down in the seat across from me. He had the lightest blue eyes I've ever seen. The sides and the back of his head were short but the top of his head was a little lengthy. He has dirty blonde hair and no facial hair.
