Drowning. Gasping for air, reaching for the surface. He couldn’t breath, all he could think about was death. The death approaching him, and as he took his final breath, he woke up. Drenched in sweat and breathing heavily, he sighed. This recurring dream.. No nightmare, was getting to be too much for him to handle. He looked around, but all he saw was darkness, except for the little bit of light shining through his window, the alarm read 5:59, it was time for him to get up, another day in his so-called life. Downstairs was a note on the empty fridge, “Ben, I had to go somewhere.. Work to get us money. I will be back as soon as I can. I Love You ~ Mom” With tears in his eyes he spoke softly, “Pplease be careful”. He packed his bags and left for school. School was hard for Ben, he wasn’t very good with the work, and nobody took the time to help him. He got ignored. Nobody even looked him in the eyes, he walkeds the halls filled with people and feltels as if hewas is the only one there. The feeling of emptiness, and loneliness surrounedds his brain. He hurts himself, he figures nobody will care, or even pretend to worry, his mom is never home, she always is out doing who knows what, in an attempt to get money, she says it’s for him, but he knows the truth. He barely eats, he is basically just skin and bones. But nobody notices, it is as if he is nonexistent. And he stopped crying out for help a long time ago. The day goes by slowly, soon enough lunch had arrived. He sat alone outside next to a tree. A tree nobody looked at. Flashbacks of his twin sister appear in his head. She was only 4, she ran into the road and got hit by a car. His mother blamed herself, so she started to drink alcohol and do drugs. She no longer played with him, no longer talked to him, could barely even remember his name. From age 5 Ben took care of himself. He has been slowly going insane since then. Seeing and hearing things that aren’t there. Thinking about doing bad things to people. He didn’t want to think like that. But he did and he couldn’t change it. He took out some of those thoughts on animals. He had killed many many animals, squirrels, bunnies, cats, birds, and more. It was another coping method. But for some reason he felt like he was missing something. Like the animals weren’t enough, he was craving for more, and he knew what he wanted, but he always trieds to stay away from it. He wants revenge on the people who leave him alone, on the people who don’t care to ask him what’s wrong, on the people who killed his father and sister. He wanted so badly to hurt someone, to show them the pain that he was feeling. After school he went home, and grabbed his pocket knife. He made deep slits in his skin, one after another. The blood was falling but he didn’t care. He was more so fascinated by it. He continued doing this until he heard a noise outside of his room. He got up and slowly walked to the door wondering what it was. As he opened the door someone appeared and without looking at who it was, he stabbed them with that small pocket knife in his hand. The person fell to the ground, he looked down only to see his mother bleeding with a horrified look on her face. But Ben wasn’t upset. He stared at her smiling widely, as if something changed in him. He laughed and got on top of her, stabbing her more. Until the life was gone out of her. He looked at her for a moment, and then he gasped. “What have I done?” Tears in his eyes, he went to the highest window and he jumped. Two lives gone. And nobody cared.
