three

Blood. Lifeless eyes. Death. Blood. Flesh. Bodies. Blood. Blood.

Blood everywhere.

She chokes on her breathing suddenly, the smell of rotting metal burns into her mind and she starts to gag.

As soon as she opens the door, blood comes rushing into her room without any warning. Her feet are bare; she feels the warmth of the puddle of blood around her legs, and the temperature in the room drops drastically. She freezes.

She thinks of closing the door, to shut the world out, but the opportunity of escaping is right under her nose. She can just take a step, and two, three, and she'll be out in a jiffy.

Easier said than done.

Her feet begin moving without her permission, and she tries to shut out the fact this red, warm, sticky liquid is what she is sloshing, wading against her feet.

Just. Keep. Moving.

But she can't.

Because other than her blood problem, there are still piles of lifeless bodies lying around right in front of her.

She takes in a sharp intake of breath - the stench of metallic blood and the rotten flesh burying her alive, choking her alive, killing her - and makes a move, slowly, painfully.

One.

Blood in her ears starts to rush loudly, and her visions start to double, but she insisted to keep moving no matter what.

Two.

The rushing in her ears gets awfully louder. She breathing goes rapid, now she crosses over a bloody-haired, blue-eyed boy who stares over at a distance of nothingness, and her knees start to wobble.

Keep. Going.

Go, go, go.

But then ear-splitting screams from a distance keep her still.

She freezes.

She tries to stay still, trying to listen to what she has heard just a few seconds ago to confirm her suspicion.

As on cue, louder, clearer screams shoot out from her left side, and footsteps are heard then.

She gasps, whether to be excited that there is another being alive in this place, or terrified that this person, or people, has been killing these bodies which are laid upon her eyes, and that she is, unfortunately, their next target.

So, quickly, she runs - again, wading across the river or blood, and she bites her lips from screaming in disgust - hides behind the walls next to the entrance, waiting.

The stomping of footsteps get louder she nearly drowns in them until they come on an abrupt stop. Her breath catches in her throat.

Then, as if time has turned seconds into eternity, the shouting begins. And the ground starts to rumble.

But the girl, shaking in fear, stays still.

She stays for what seems an eternity, when a hand grabs her gently by the shoulders, and that is when the girl is able to scream from fear as loud as she could without hesitating.

She struggles away, but only to invite another hand covering her mouth this time, holding her still.

She catches the face of who us grabbing her - a boy around her age, or perhaps a year older, the girl can't put a finger to it to make sure - before she is brought into a hug.

She stands still in her position, and she cannot help but to notice the little things of him: the soft thudding of his rhythmic heartbeat which is somewhat a soothing medicine for her to calm herself down, the soft breathing of his against her neck which makes her hair stand, and the masculine scent of the boy - peppermint mingled with sweat, the gentle stroking of her hair; and the faintest smile dances on her lips.

But other than that, she is glad; she, finally, has someone beside her. That's enough.

After a while, he pulls away, his hands rest on her waist, heat flushed in the girl's cheeks when the boy flashes a dimpled, brilliant smile, and he says softly to her, "You're going to be all right."

She locks gazes with him, drowning into his perfect sea green eyes, and her heart does a wild somersault. She looks away, her cheeks burning, but she can still feel that he is staring at her, still, and that his hands are still on her waist. Her cheeks flushes into a darker shade of red.

"So," he speaks, "what's your name, love?"

She looks up then, into his sea green, and smiles a little.

But as always, just before she could reply, she hears footsteps, fast and wild, as if they are-

"Running." He says, who stares ahead without looking at her, and the girl stares at him with wide eyes, her mind still calculating: Had he just read her mind?

She shrugs it off, and stares ahead at what he's looking. She walks closer. At the entrance, she sees a sea of people running to a direction up ahead. She follows, almost forgetting that the boy was with her, but silently, without asking, he follows too.

She blends into the crowd of people - to her surprise, they are also at the same age as the girl and the boy she has just met - their faces brightening in excitement; they must have found something good. She runs as fast as she can, her breaths become short and she can smell the musky scent of sweat around her, her heart thumping loudly under her ribcage she's afraid it would burst. Adrenaline pumps in her veins like blood: fast.

She sprints as hard as she can.

She follows the direction the people are heading: sharp turns of lefts and rights, and then she sees it: a blinding light up ahead.

The crowd cheers and hollers loudly, and pushes hardly to freedom.

Her heart and stomach squueze in excitement; she cannot contain it, she squeals.

A familiar touch against her palm shocks her; it is the boy. She looks at him with pure excitement that also gleams in his eyes, and together, they nod to each other and run.

Within that wide stretch from where they stand and the exit, everything is a blur. With a blink of an eye, she is already out.

Freedom.

She never thought she'd want something so bad, and yet it brings her- brings her relief.

But something is off.

So off.

And when she turns around, her heart sinks into her stomach.

Because from where the crowd of people stood - including the attractive boy, and the building she was in has, somehow, disappeared.
