"and horrible joke girl camila makes her comeback thun thun thuuuuuuun." lauren mocks as camila comes in to check on her for the night.

"you won't be laughing once i say a joke that'll knock you off your feet." camila replies, holding lauren's medication in her hands.

"if you haven't noticed im too weak to even be up on my feet. way to kill the mood."

camila tries to find any trace of a joke in lauren's sentence but she could 't find any.

"laur-"

"don't give me that. don't give me your pity, i don't want it." lauren looks camila straight in the eye, challenging her to say something.

"i wasn't trying to give you pity!" Camila retaliates.

"can you just do what you came in here for?" Lauren dismisses their conversation, looking away and facing the wall beside her.

"Alight um, I'm just gonna check on your vitals and change your iv. It'll be over before you know it."

camila moves around and checks Lauren's heart monitor, changes her fluid and takes her temperature, lauren occasionally making sarcastic comments at how she was doing everything wrong compared to other more professional nurses and whatnot. camila just ignores the older girl, knowing that lauren was just probably trying to get a reaction out of her.

which, camila thinks, was something lauren wouldn't get from her. nope. never.

"so im just gonna inject your meds in your iv. hold still." camila grabs the injection from the silver tray she was holding, checking the liquid inside if it was the correct amount. meanwhile, lauren glances at the object in camila's hands carefully, her eyes narrowing. she absolutely hated the feeling of medication in her body. it stung and it made it hard for her to sleep, so the thought of someone injecting it into her bloodstream, especially if that someone was camila, both made her angry and scared at the same time.

"um, no you're not. there is no way in hell that thing is getting in me." lauren moves away from the nurse, only to have her head lightly bump into the wall behind her.

"this thing is getting in you whether you like it or not." camila says seriously. her professional mode was on and it was clear she wasn't bantering with the older girl anymore.

"camz" the nickname slips out of Lauren's mouth before she could realize what she was saying. "I'm gonna die anyway what's the point of prolonging my despair."

camila sighs. she didn't like how lauren was talking, even though it was semi-true. people who were in the hospice were there for a reason, but camila refused to believe that the older brunette would give up that easily. she could tell that lauren was a fighter, and camila would be damned if she let her give up that easily.

"you know what?" camila puts the injection back on the tray, making lauren breathe out in relief. "-you're wrong. you're not going to die like this lauren, you're not going to die shutting the rest of the world out." she knew this was not suppose to happen. they were told from the minute camila entered medical school that telling terminal patients news wherein they were going to recover, was only giving them false hope; but camila didn't care, she knew this girl was worth so much more than she knew.

"regardless of that being true or not, we all die in the end. oblivion is inevitable and i'm afraid some go through it earlier than others. i'm sorry if you think otherwise." lauren replies coldly, her previous fear about needles long gone. she hated thinking about death, but the only thing she hated more than the idea that her time was almost up, was the fact that some people think it wasn't.

lauren looks at the her young nurse and cocks her head. apparently her speech had the desired effect she was hoping for because camila could barely think of a word to say. the older girl thinks that maybe she should just let camila inject more poison into her iv tube. her speech had left her tired anyway, and besides, what was a cancer patient to do in a cramped up bed all day long?

"inject me."

"w-what?" camila finally stutters out, finding her voice once more. damn that jauregui. always leaving her mind blank whenever she tried to think of a good comeback.

"i said inject me. i have no need to be kept awake any longer." lauren keeps her stoic expression, a skill she mastered over the years when confronted by medical staff.

"well, goodnight lo." camila says unsurely, doing as lauren asks.

lauren closes her eyes and folds her hands on her chest, hoping to god that she would fall asleep before the pain started.
