Ingrid Anderson was Salem Gregg's best friend. When she dies, Salem is left alone to put the pieces back together. All of the hopes and dreams they'd shared and wanted to pursue, the memories they'd made, and the person that Salem was before her death seemed to have all turned to dust. And as Salem begins to crumble beneath the weight of her own loneliness, companionship in the form of hazel eyes, loud music, and sloppily written notes beneath her door barges its way into her life. Neil Wesley is sweet, encouraging, and thoughtful, everything that Salem is weary of, and makes it apparent that he wants to be apart of her life. He is the music that she forgot existed and the melody that she hadn't know she'd been craving. And while Salem is hesitant, afraid, and reluctant, the crescendo that she had yet to let herself experience comes in full force.

But nothing is as easy as it seems. Opening up old woulds can be more painful than when they were formed, and Salem has had enough pain throughout her life. Will Neil be a refreshing ailment, or more salt in her scab?

"Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh & exciting - over & over announcing your place in the family of things." Mary Oliver

"I think I've come to terms with the fact that there will always be a ribbon of loneliness running through who I am. . . You can use that ribbon to be a part of a finer tapestry, or you can choke yourself out with it! Your choice!" Jenny Slate
