"WARNING "

"Partying tonight?"

My go-getter best friend displays her bright smile thinking she can actually trick me. I look at her and show my disapproval by shaking my head.

"I have other things that need to be taken care of." I answer and flip some of the pages which demand me memorising them.

Being a freshman law student is much more complicated than I first anticipated and I definitely underestimated the amount of material that I have to learn. Switching landscapes, from California to England, is something I never thought was possible for me given my family circumstances, but nevertheless I am glad that I am able to enjoy some freedom far away from home. And I'm more determined as ever to keep it, even if that means I have to stay buried in books 6 days out of 7.

"Fine, lone wolf." she says while waving the waitress to bring us the check." But promise me that on Saturday we're going to attend the release of my cousin's book, ok?"

"Do I have a choice?" I ask as I dig my hand in the purse, looking for my money.

"Hmm, not really."

When we step outside the cafeteria the wind spreads some of my brunette strands on my face and I try to remove them with a swift movement of my fingers. I close my Channel jacket, lifting my purse up my shoulder. I will never get used to the British climate. If it doesn't rain, it's too cold. But nevertheless, I enjoy it. It resonates with my soul.

We pass by a group of teenage boys with exaggerated friendly smiles stuck on their faces and Sarah chuckles playfully while I pretend not to care, concerned more about rummaging in my own bag after the car key and also performing the incredible task of holding my stack of papers with just one hand. Eventually, my flirtatious bestie casts a disapproving glance at me and smacks my arm as the guys pass by without any luck.

"What the... "I frown. "You said you want to go to a release of a book, not a date" I'm kidding and almost burst into laughter when I see her glaring eyes.

Besides, a relationship is the last thing I'm looking for now. I have enough in my mind as it is and any unnecessary complication, like the presence of a guy in my life, will be a hindrance. I am not going to give up my so hard earned freedom when I am finally away from home.

We finally reach the place where I parked my car and climb in while a group of curious students stop on the go giving my car the up-a-down. A bright tangerine Lamborghini Huracán Evo is a real light panel next to the monotonous cars in the parking lot and,  although at first I didn't agree with this extravagant gift from my father, I got to love my car. To some extent, it reminds me of home, more precisely, of everything I left behind coming here. It reminds me of danger, speed, mystery, luxury and beauty.

I pull my seatbelt over my body and something weird catches my attention on the other side of the street. A black, elegant and luxurious vehicle that could easily compete with my extravagant car at any time is definitely something not that common around this area. My eyes narrow with disapproval and I frown at the smokey windows. I can't even see the driver's face but I'm wondering if he or she comes from the same world as mine. Quite unusual, but who am I to wonder why someone owns this type of car?

Sarah starts talking again about how lucky I am to be both rich and beautiful and that I can have any guy at my feet but my stubbornness is what makes it impossible. I nod with an improvised smile and hope she doesn't realise I'm not paying attention to what she's telling me.

"Anyway ... Guess what my cousin's book is about." She says once the thunderous sound of the engine turns into a raging torso.

"I don't really care ... as long as it's not a horror one. I need sleep now more than ever. And I definitely don't want the pile of clothes on my chair to look like something else when I look at it at 3 am."
