Trinity' POV
All I can do is stare after him as I try to remember if I told him my name and when he could have possibly taken my phone without either of us noticing. my thoughts are interrupted as Sam comes back.
"Close your mouth, you'll catch flies," he jokes with a small chuckle. I snap my mouth closed with a blush as I realize that I was gaping at the waitor. Nix. The name seems to fit him in some odd way.
We eat in silence and I can tell something is bothering him. I've always been able to read him. It's like a second nature to me. When we're done eating, Nix comes back to take away the dirty plates and pizza tray. As he starts to walk away, he smirks and looks down at the table. When he's gone, I look at the table and see a slip of paper. I pick it up and read:
You're staring
I blush, crumpling up the note. He knew. Sam notices my blush, and asks, "What is that?" He starts reaching for my hand with the note. "What's in your hand?" I quickly reach down, shove the note in my pocket, and look at him inocently. "What are you talking about? What note?" I put my hands up in surrender.
He retracts his hand and says, "I thought I say a note in your hand..." I know he can see right through my act, but he's smart enough to know I won't say anything unless I want to. I feel a weight on the back of my head like someone's watching me. I turn and see a glimpse of something behind Pirate's Cove, but it's gone as fast as it was there, just a blink and it's like nothing was ever there. I decide it was just part of my imagination and try to turn back to Sam, but my eyes catch sight of Nix. He's looking right at me. He looks worried as he throws a quick glance at Pirate's Cove, but then his eyes are back on mine, and the worry is gone, leaving just the walls and a smirk plastered on his face. He mouthes something at me. Note. I glance at Sam to make sure he's distracted and realize he's been talking, but I can barely hear him over the noise around us. I look for Nix once more, but he's talking to the kids, and they all seem eager to get to him. I realize he's focused on one girl who seems different from the other kids.
She's small for her age, real wiry, but I can tell she's about 10 or 9. Her hair is a dark brown and pulled back in a tight pony-tail and she seems to be talking animately about something in a book in her hands. Nix seems completely absorbed in the girl, like she's the most important thing in the world. I throw one more glance at Sam to make sure he isn't expecting an answer any time soon. Assured, I pull the note out my pocket and flip it over.
So was I
I look back over at the mysterious boy, only to see the little girl staring at me with green eyes identical to Nix's, who is gliding across the crowd with that natural ease again, presumably to get back to work. I look away from the girl and try to focus on Sam, but I can't focus on anything with that unnerving gaze on me, too intense for someone her age.
----
After we we're done eating, around 9 o'clock, Sam says,"I'm going to go. I have a huge bio test Monday. Need a ride?"
I shake my head,"I'm going to stay until my shift." He looks at me worriedly,"You'll be okay?"I smile at him."Of course. It's Freddy Fazbear's. What could go wrong?" He smiles back. "Okay." He leaves as I sit there, watching the animatronics singing on stadge. They all seem to have something that resembles pizza sauce around their eyes.
I feel a burning sensation on the back of my neck. I turn around and glance at Pirate's Cove. Again, I see something flash behind the purple curtains. I get up, walking toward them. As I reach out to pull it back, I feel a hand on my elbow. I turn and see those mysterious green eyes.
He says with a smirk, "Sorry, sweatheart, out of order." I see something in his eyes as he glances back at the curtain. He pulls me towards the back closet, without anyone spotting us. He pulls me in and shuts the door. "Hey. Did your boyfriend leave?" I turn and see him leaning against the door. I blush. "He's not my boyfriend." Even in the darkness, I see something light up in his eyes. "Okay. So you're the new night watchman here?" I nod and he continues. "Do you know anything about this place?"
What? What did he just say? "Um...like what?"
I notice him look straight into my eyes, and I'm looking back. Looking at the walls behind his beautiful green eyes. But...they're cracked. He says,"Do the animatronics really move at night?"
