"I feel so cold"

----------------------------------

It all starts so early yet the day begins so late. In the forest, it was peaceful, covered in a pure white blanket. The animals were sleeping the winter away and the trees stood still, waiting for their life to blossom once again. Ever so slightly, the serenity was interrupted by a young boy marching through the deep snow, an empty basket slang over his back.

"Another successful day. I've managed to sell all of the coal this time!" The boy spoke with enthusiasm and pride. He was a young teen, black hair with burgundy tip that's tied into a small ponytail, and wide red eyes that shined with nothing but kindness. A soft yet bright smile decorated his slightly tanned skin face.

'These earnings should be enough for dinner and supplies.' He thought as he continues to make his way home.

Suddenly, he paused in his tasked, his nose scrunching up as he picks up an unknown scent. One he knew wasn't present on his way to the village earlier. 'I smell....' His eyes slowly start to widened as he recognized the scent. His thoughts didn't catch up to him as he sprinted in another direction. His eyes held tremendous worry as he weaved through the wood, follow the scent.

'I smell....I smell blood! Human blood!'

The closer he the stronger the smell was. It didn't take long for him to reach the sources destination. He was now standing at the edge of a river stream, he shivered at the chill the was giving to the air. He looked around frantically, searching for a possible person that's injured, unable to call for help.

He soon found someone, their body laying off the edge of the river stream, their lower body remained in the ice cold water. With a gasp, the young man quickly moved his feet to where they where. As he closer, he realized that the person was a girl.

"Are you okay?!" The boy exclaimed as he pulled the girl away the water. The girl was unconscious, barely breathing. He pushed her platinum hair out of her face, revealing a cut. The young boy also noted that she also has a deep slash across her back, but fortunately the bleeding had stopped already.

'She's freezing!' The boy thought before he began to take off his checkered haori and wrapped her around it before picking her up and quickly running towards his home.

'Keep fighting! You'll make it! You'll get through this!'

*A week later*

'What happened? It's so warm. Where am I?'

The blonde haired girl slowly fluttered her eyes open, only to be met with the sunlight peaking through the window and the soft sounds of birds chirping sang to her ears. Slowly she sat up, wincing as the pain spiked up on her head and back. She was on something soft. A bed?

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of the door sliding open, catching her attention as the same boy walked in, a tray with a bowl of water and cloth in his hands. He froze once he realized the girl he's been taking care of is finally awake. He couldn't help but gaze at the mysterious girl as if he was in a trance, his focus on her beautiful eyes. They were so vibrant, it's as if they were glowing.

The girl tilted her head slightly in curiosity before opening her mouth, "H-hello?" She spoke with a slightly raspy voice bet yet it was soft. Her tone sounded more mature than most women but it was still soft.

Those words were enough to break the red head's trance and he offered a relieved smile as he walked further in the room to place the tray down.

"Good morning. I'm so glad that you're finally awake! How are you feeling?" The boy spoke softly as if he didn't want to scare her. He held a patient look in his wine eyes.

Before she could answer, the door slid open once again and another person rushed in. It was a grown woman standing at the door.

"Mother." The boy that was talking to her spoke up.

The lady smiled warmly as she walked closer to the other two children and sat next to her son, looking at the girl with welcoming eyes, "Hello, I'm glad that you've woken up. Everyone was starting worry that you wouldn't survive your injuries. My name is Kamado Kie. May I know yours?"

The girl had to think for a moment. Her mind was like a blank slate that she was desperately looking through. It finally came to her as she open her mouth to answer. The name feeling foreign to her as it rolls off her tongue.

"My name...is Takao Atsuko..." The girl, now named Atsuko, answered.

"That's a lovely name Atsuko. Do you know how you got in the river? Who hurt you?"

Atsuko's gaze dropped to her lap, "I don't know....I can't remember..." She spoke in a quiet tone.

Both the boy and the women wore worried frowns on their faces, "What about your parents? Do you know where they might be or where they live?"

Atsuko shook her head as her hands gripped it, "I can't...I don't remember anything..."

The women smiled sadly. She truly pitied the child. It must be scary to wake up and not remember anything. She looks like she might be her son's age.

Speaking of her son, he decided to speak up, "My name is Kamado Tanjiro. I was the one who found you. I'm sorry that you can't remember anything but..." Tanjiro smiled softly at the girl, "I'm sure that everything is going to be okay."

Atsuko returned his smile with one of her own, "Okay. Thank you."

Kei laughed softly at their interaction. She could already tell that they will grow a strong bond in the future, "And since you can't remember where you came from, you could stay here with us until you do."

Atsuko's violet eyes widened, "R-really?"

"Of course! I'll be glad to offer another spot in the family."

A bright grin spread across Atsuko's face, as she gave the vibe of absolute gratitude. It's almost as if she was the sun herself.

Tanjiro once again gazed at her as if he was in a trance. It's almost as if she was a completely different person from when he first found her. As he continued to gaze a single thought ran through his mind before he could stop it.
