Chapter Two

The Sorting Hat

And we kept talking and talking, the conversation going on. We just talked about anything that came to our heads, even nonsense things but we didn't care about the topic. For some reason, we just really both wanted to talk to each other.

I learned a many great deal about Tom while we were talking. I learned that Tom was an orphan which I felt sorry for. But I couldn't believe he was, Tom didn't act like an orphan. He was different. Tom was a boy whose smile could melt ice and whose eyes were full of happiness, bliss. He was a happy boy. I also learned that Tom was a rather good joker, I had really good laughs with him.

We were so engrossed in our conversation that we didn't even feel the train stop at the station. I looked out the window and find ourselves in a station, the skies were already dark but beautiful.

I couldn't help but burst into excitement as I saw students pour out of the train. I could see the lighted windows of the castle from afar. I looked quickly at Tom, my smile reaching my ears.

"We're here! Tom! We're here!" I said excitedly at him.

"Yeah, haha, we are." Tom didn't seem as excited as me and he just flashed me a smile.

We quickly unloaded our trunks and I carried Maximus' basket, my pet cat. I could see my black pet cat was already asleep and curled like a ball inside his basket. I gently carried as I did not want to wake him up. I also saw Tom carrying a cage, with an owl in it. The owl was beautiful, it had white feathers and piercing eyes.

We exited the train along with other first years. A short, plump man guided us towards a lake with boats floating. Several of them. I took that we would ride on those boats to cross the lake to arrive Hogwarts and we did.

Tom and I rode the same boat along with three other students.

There were two girls and one boy. The two girls were so identical so I took it that they were twins. They both had black curly hair. They had a few freckels on their face mostly near their nose. Their eyes were the color of the sea, a dark and deep blue. The only distinguishing feature was that one of them had a mole in her nose and the other one didn't.

I was curious why only us, first years rode the boat and the other years were taking carriages. Not able to hold my curiosity any longer, I asked Tom.

"Why are we, first years the only one riding the boats?" I asked Tom but instead of getting a reply from him, I got a reply from the twins instead.

"Well, it's the school's tradition. All first years must ride the boat."

"It is necessary."

"Uhh--I see..." The other twin seeing that I had difficulty replying, introduced herself instead.

"Hi, I'm Katie." said the other one with the mole.

"And I'm Kriss. We're the Klein sisters." Said the other twin and they both extended their hands to us.

I shook both their hands while Tom just nodded at them. The boy with the brown hair didn't make a response and just sat there, quiet.

"Who's that?" I asked the twins.

"Oh that's Felipe Levisque. He's French so he doesn't understand us that much and he probably wouldn't, considering the fact that he's weird." Kriss said.

"Yes, very weird indeed. Did you know he swallowed a frog when he was four?" Katie said, her blue eyes widened.

I didn't respond and just nodded at her. While the twins continued to talk horrible things about poor Felipe, I looked at Tom.
