It was a beautiful day in the Caribbean. Turquoise waves lapped at the shores of golden, sandy beaches. Ships were afloat in the water. One ship in particular, The Rose of the Nile, was preparing to embark on the most high-risk, high-reward journey it had ever been on. Its fearless captain, Lily Walker (alias Duchess), and her partner, Raphael Sorenson (alias Pharaoh), would be the only people to actually participate in the quest. They were going to rob a British admiral's ship, The British Nobility.
"Come on then, Raphael. The ship won't wait forever." Lily said, exasperated. Her British accent always got more pronounced when she was annoyed. Her blues eyes pierced Raphael's back as she glared at him.
"All right, all right, calm yourself. I'm almost ready. The ship won't be leaving the dock for another few hours." Raphael answered, still stuffing things into his messenger bag in front of him. "Now I'm ready," he said after stuffing one last knife in.
"Head for the dock!" Lily said, turning to her crew mate at the wheel. He obeyed and soon the ship was turning towards the dock where the British Nobility waited for them, as if inviting them to climb aboard.
They reached the dock and pulled the ship alongside The British Nobility. Lily tied her hair into a braid before turning to check she had all the proper equipment as well. They heard the shouts of the British soldiers as they prepared to leave to travel on to their next trading destination. Lily and Raphael hopped off The Rose of the Nile and scampered along the shadows until they reached the ramp leading onto the ship. They put on their stolen uniforms and walked into the enemy territory.
Right away they spotted Admiral Jacob Sorenson.
"Jake." Raphael whispered. Lily grabbed his hand in reassurance. They lined up along the rest of the soldiers as Admiral Sorenson began to give orders.
"Attention! We're going to be setting sail in just a few minutes. Finish securing the crates and get below deck. It looks like rain."
Lily and Raphael followed the orders and then went to wait below deck. They heard some of the soldiers mumbling about the storm and how they didn't want to be trapped below deck for another week.
"Let's go." Lily whispered, then her and Raphael snuck away from the soldiers and down a long hallway. They stopped at a door at the end and slowly pushed it open. Inside was a desk facing the door, its back to an expansive window through which they could see all the people on the docks going about their normal business.
Lily and Raphael crept to the safe in the back corner of the room. Raphael crouched down next to the safe and began cracking it while Lily stood and looked over his shoulder.
"We're in." Raphael opened the safe and took out the burlap bag within it to show Lily. She smiled.
"Well, well. I hadn't expected to see my little brother here today."
Lily and Raphael turned to see Admiral Sorenson standing in the doorway, guards flanking him on both sides.
Admiral Sorenson was an identical copy of Raphael. His dirty blonde hair was the same shade, and their light blue eyes matched perfectly. Raphael, however, kept his hair messily tousled while Admiral Sorenson had his hair slicked back.
"I'm impressed, Pharaoh. I didn't think you'd get this far in my ship. I saw you from the moment you stepped into my ship. I hoped the rest of the soldiers would have you trapped like rats in between their masses, but somehow you escaped. No matter. I still found you here. And now I think it's time to put an end to your reign of the seas, Duchess."
Lily drew one of her knives, but as quick as a flash Admiral Sorenson was across the room with his gun to Lily's head.
"You may be good, but I'm better."
Her eyes widened, but before she could react, he pulled the trigger.
Bang.
As her body fell to the floor Raphael fell along with her.
"Lily." He bowed his head over her body and watched as the last tears slipped out of her unseeing eyes. He felt the cold press of a gun barrel against his head but didn't react.
"I wish it didn't have to be this way, dear brother," Admiral Sorenson's cold voice came from behind him. "I so would have loved to have you on my ship as a comrade rather than an enemy. But it was not meant to be. And you know how I take care of my enemies, Raphael. You know more than anyone else."
Tears fell from Raphael's face onto Lily's. Admiral Sorenson's finger tightened on the trigger.
Bang.
