Ashley

After we're all done eating at the diner, we all head outside. "What do we do now?" Chris asks. None of us can go back to any kind of schooling yet. We've all graduated from high school, so none of us are in a rush to go to college. We're too burned out.

"Maybe we should split up for a bit to take a sort of break and get back together later," Matt suggests, looking nervously at Emily, who is still crying slightly from the scare earlier.

Everyone nods except Sam. She's just looking out into the distance. I look around at all of us and see Mike holding hands with Jess, Matt holding hands with Em, and me holding hands with Chris. It's then when I realize what's wrong. She's looking at all the couples and thinking about Josh.

Chris and I share a look. I know that he's come to the same conclusion. Sam is right next to him so he takes her hand with his free one. Mike notices the gesture and takes Sam's free hand. Soon enough, we're all standing in a circle holding hands outside the diner.

Sam smiles and we all smile back at her. We then all stop holding hands, aside from the couples, of course, and part our ways in groups. We all wave and promise each other to come back together as a big group for lunch at me and Chris's house.

As Chris and I are heading to his car, we hear Mike call after Sam, saying, "Sam, come with me and Jess!"

She turns around. "I don't want to intrude on anything."

Jess shakes her head at Sam's remark and looks up at Mike, as if telling him to continue.

"Come on, Sam," he says. "If Jess and I need alone time, we can go into a different room or something. Don't worry about it."

"Okay. If you're sure."

"I'm positive."

Sam smiles. "Alright. I'll follow you there."

"Sounds good," Mike agrees.

Chris and I share a look before getting in the car. We're happy that Sam won't have to spend more time alone. Her love is gone, so it's like she's the odd one out. It shouldn't be like that.

Chris drives us back to our house and we kick off our shoes when we get inside. Chris suddenly yawns. "I might take a small nap, Ash. I'm still tired."

I nod and say, "Alright. Have fun."

He smirks. "I won't if you're not there."

I roll my eyes. "Go to bed, Chris."

"Alright, alright." He chuckles as he goes up the stairs.

I don't feel like taking a nap right now, so I go to the kitchen and sit down on a chair at the counter. I start humming when I am interrupted by a sound. I whirl around, only to realize that it's Chris snoring. I giggle and decide to go upstairs to check on him.

His glasses are set on the nightstand and he has the covers pulled up, but not well enough. I can tell that he's already been tossing and turning to get comfortable because the sheets and blankets aren't pulled up as far as Chris usually likes them. Plus they're a little twisted up. I can tell that Chris was serious about taking this nap. He looks exhausted.

I smile and walk up to my sleeping boyfriend. I take the blankets and pull them up to cover Chris's naked chest. The snoring stops and I'm afraid that I've woken him up. I know that I haven't ruined anything when the snoring starts back up again.

I can't help but stare at his sleeping face. He's so... peaceful. And cute. I play with his hair gently, kissing his forehead when I'm done. Then, not knowing what to busy myself with until Chris wakes up, I sit down on the floor, leaning against the bed.

I start to softly hum to myself as I twiddle my thumbs when the snoring stops and I hear Chris groggily call, "Ashley. Ash."

I get up slightly and kneel next to the bed. His eyes are still closed and I can tell that he's half-asleep. "Ashley," he repeats. "Ash. Ash."

"Shh, Chris. I'm right here. You can sleep."

"No, Ash. Come."

He takes ahold of my arm without opening his eyes. "No," I object. "Chris, I don't feel like taking a nap right now."

"Ash," he groans sleepily. "Please."

I sigh with a smile. "Alright."

I pull back the blankets and slip into bed next to Chris as he moves over to make room for me. I pull the covers over us. I then turn so my back is to him and I feel Chris slide his arms around my waist and pull me closer to him until I am leaning against his bare chest. Soon after, the snoring returns. I smile, grateful for this moment.

I wake up when someone licks my ear and then kisses my temple over and over. "Hey," he whispers in my ear.

"Chris," I say, squirming due to the tickles. "how did you sleep?"

"Good, you?"

"Like a dream."

I can't see his face, but I know he's smiling. I turn around in his arms and see that I am right. "I love you, Ashley."

I smile back at him. "And I love you, Christopher."

I cup his face with my hands, gently rubbing my thumbs against his cheeks. He continues to smile at me, suggesting, "We should get up and be productive until lunch."

"But I want to stay here with you right now," I object, kissing him on the nose.

"Ah. Nice try, Ashley, but seducing me won't work this time."

I smirk. Sliding my hands down to rest on his chest. "You sure?"

"I'm growing more and more unsure every second."

"That's what I thought."

He looks at me with a passion so brilliant that I fear I will burn up in its warmth. He presses his lips against mine, tightening his grip around my waist. I slowly move my hands back up to his neck and kiss him back. I let him slip his tongue into my mouth and we just lay there, kissing for a while, but not long enough.

Too soon, Chris pulls away. "Let's get up and do something, shall we?"

"Alright. Sounds good."
