Chapter 1 - Quick decisions
My eyes stung as the sound of doors cranking open, the flashing lights of the guard's flashlights hitting my eyes, causing my head to pound. What a poor little soul, myself. Locked away for a crime I didn't even commit, a pity. My eyes opened fully, revealing their glassy look upon the unique colorations of them. A bright blue color, sky blue- it was lovely- as my other always told me. But there was a slight twist of it, it had gold seeping in, guarding around my pupil.
" Get up, murderer. " A guard snarled at me, spit flying, hitting my face, causing me to scrunch up my nose. I lazily lifted my hand, wiping it away from my face. The first week I got here, I was terrified. They'd come in and taunt me to no avail. Hit me? Yes. Though it was normal nature from men like them. Blinded animals, their only concern for the money that gets put in their precious little pockets and sent home to take care of their perfect little family. I never had that- not at all. But, to interrupt my thinking, another guard came up and roughly punched me in the gut, causing stinging to crawl throughout my rib area, going a bit into my chest area. I glared at him " Pushy, much? " I muttered, but only to be returned with another jab to the gut. I learned my lesson, for some reason they were getting pushier day by day. I really wasn't all that bad to deal with. I just made stupid puns, and sang a lot. I finally forced myself to stand up, getting onto my shaky stinging feet. Feet beatings weren't the most pleasant thing, they'd tie me down atleast once a day and whip my feet with a wooden plank, with a nail on the end. It hurt, I admit. They grabbed my arms and roughly pushed me forward, making me stumble slightly, causing the pressure of my weight lean down on my aching feet. I hissed through my teeth, continuing to walk down the dark corridor, hearing all of the animals that they called people, scarfing down their trashy food. My lips formed a straight line as they took me up the stairs. " Today's the day, Paul. " My eyes widened, Already? I thought to myself. I thought execution day was weeks from now. They had decided a beheading was worthy of my crimes against the kingdom. Probably would give it to the king on a silver platter. They thought me a criminal, opposedly they claimed I ' killed ' their flawless little son. But that just wasn't the truth, no one knew what really happened, and I don't intend on telling anyone, either. All of the sudden, there were flashes, slamming the men that were once at both of my sides at the black walls. I stared blankly at a girl before me, who had firey red hair put up in a bun, and stunning amber eyes. She looked at me with the same expression, only to speak after moments of silence
" Come with me if you don't want your head to roll today. "

I stared hopelessly at the girl before me, did I really have a choice? " Get it together, Paul. " She spoke in a serious tone. I breathed, my cold breath making my teeth begin to hurt. Her eyes narrowed and she stormed over to me, grabbing my arm roughly, and a mist around us was now formed. I was tossed onto her shoulder as she jogged, my head going up and down. " Who are you? " I asked, in a surprised tone. " My name is Cinna. I'll explain everything later, but let us just say that you are being given another chance, my friend. " She spoke, still in mid jog and her lips twitched into a smile. We ran down the long corridors, going down the countless stairs, then escaping through the door only to be surrounded by guards. I froze in her arms, she looked at them with an angry expression " Leave if you do not wish to be harmed. " The lead guard, who seemed to have some facial hair going on and a shiny bald head and rough looking eyes began to laugh. " Tch, and what, a little girl is going to stop us? " She grinned " No. But they will. " Griffins with magnificent talons and large black wings began to fly down from the sky, taking the guards away by the dozens, flying off until they were no longer in sight. Cinna set me down. Up close, she had bags under her eyes and unique amber eyes, around the pupil there were tiny specks of bright blue. She looked at me with a blank expression " Are you going to get on or what, lover boy? " She said in a disinterested tone. I blinked slowly, turning to be faced to face with a huge griffin, its head was atleast the size of two of my own. My breath came out as a slight wheeze, my pupils small. Cinna roughly pushed me over to the griffin, which I appreciated, I was rather terrified of the creature. I slowly went to its side, only to have its beady eyes look back at me, with its cat slitted pupils. I gulped, pulling myself up onto the griffin and sat. It was surprisingly soft, with the exception of a few feathers poking my leg. Cinna climbed onto her own, which was a light dust color with big yellow eyes. Mine, was grey, and had shining green eyes. " That there is Smokey, one of the best griffins you'll know. " Smokey squaked, and lifted into the air causing me to cling onto the tufts of feathers on its neck. Cinna had a grin splitting on her face " Hold on! " She yelled to me as we took off into the sky, on our way to something I was never prepared for.
